Job Title: Building Surveyor

Location: Birmingham

Salary: £32,000-£46,000 dependent on experience

Job Description:

We have an exciting opportunity for a Building Surveyor with the potential for Project Team Leader responsibilities. Join our vibrant Birmingham team with the flexibility of hybrid working, where you'll spearhead projects across a spectrum of exciting sectors, including Housing, Education, Commercial, Care, and Health.

Role Information

Act as the Contract Administrator or Employer's Agent on a wide range of building types, utilising all standard forms of construction and assuming full responsibility for the following:

  • Visit site and carry out and issue inspections reports.
  • Prepare and present initial appraisal and feasibility reports.
  • Carry out measured surveys of existing buildings or sites.
  • Prepare and present outline design proposals, including preparation of budget estimate costs.
  • Prepare and present for approval complete scheme designs.
  • Prepare full working drawings sufficient for the construction of the project.
  • Submit applications for statutory approvals, including Planning, Listed Building Consent and Building Control Approval.
  • Prepare specifications and schedules of work and/or provide information for the preparation of bills of quantities.
  • Invite tenders for the main contract, carry out tender analysis and prepare tender reports.
  • Prepare contract documents.
  • Undertaking Contract Administration duties in accordance with Practice procedures and verification strategies.
  • Preparing maintenance manuals.
  • Undertake professional services to include Party Wall procedures, schedules of condition, inspection of buildings to determine condition and future maintenance liabilities, including preparing detailed reports.
  • Delegating any of the above duties whilst retaining responsibility for achievement.

Essential Skills/qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years post-qualification (BSc (Hons) degree or similar in Building Surveying) experience and/or breadth of knowledge and competence commensurate with this position.
  • Working within a consultancy environment / industry experience
  • Membership of RICS or equivalent recognised qualification or actively working towards qualification.
  • An organised approach to work
  • Flexible attitude to work
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to establish good working relationships

Projects working on

  • Refurbishment projects in the education, housing and care sector
  • Survey programmes for local authorities and education establishments

Skills/experience Desired But Not Essential

  • A background in social housing, healthcare and/or education sectors
  • Experience with fire compliance in buildings
  • A commercial awareness around fee management and business development
  • Listed building consent experience and conservation knowledge
  • Experience leading a project team
