Experienced Building Surveyor Opportunity in Preston
About the Role
I'm working with a well-regarded building consultancy in the Preston area looking to add an experienced Building Surveyor to their growing team. This is a business with a genuinely diverse instruction base - covering surveying, contract administration and building pathology work across commercial, education and residential clients - and a track record of developing people through to Senior and Associate level.
If you're an experienced Building Surveyor and looking for a role with real autonomy, a broader technical caseload and the backing of a close-knit, experienced team, this is worth a conversation.
What You'll Be Doing
- Undertaking building surveys, condition reports and defect diagnosis across a varied portfolio of commercial and public sector buildings
- Managing contract administration on refurbishment, repair and maintenance projects, from tender through to practical completion
- Preparing specifications, schedules of work and cost estimates
- Advising clients directly on building condition, planned maintenance and lifecycle strategy
- Liaising with contractors, consultants and other professionals to keep projects on track
- Supporting and mentoring more junior surveyors as they develop
- Contributing to business development and helping build out client relationships as your caseload grows

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
