Templer HomeBuild is excited to welcome a competent Building Surveyor to its expanding Building Safety and Technical team in Newton Abbot.
You’ll help keep homes safe, compliant and well maintained across a varied property portfolio.
Your role will include carrying out technical surveys, diagnosing building defects, preparing specifications and managing works through to completion.
Working with colleagues, contractors and customers/residents, you’ll combine building pathology knowledge with strong communication and practical problem-solving. You’ll hold a relevant qualification and be committed to professional development, with the opportunity to work towards MRICS through the Templer HomeBuild APC programme if not already achieved.

The Building Surveyor Role
Your focus will be to provide technical surveying expertise to our planned investment and larger projects workstreams.
Tasks Will Include
- Carrying out property surveys, inspections, feasibility studies and risk assessments across our housing stock.
- Diagnosing building defects, including damp, mould, structural issues and other building pathology concerns.
- Preparing reports, specifications, schedules of work, drawings and recommendations.
- Ensuring compliance with Building Regulations, Housing Standards, CDM and other relevant legislation.
- Managing projects from start to finish, including quality, budgets, performance and contractor compliance.
- Undertaking site inspections and project meetings, providing technical advice throughout delivery.
What will you bring as a Building Surveyor?
- Building surveying experience, ideally in residential housing and capital projects.
- Level 5 Building Surveying qualification or equivalent construction degree, with willingness to work towards Level 6 and Chartered Membership.
- Strong knowledge of building pathology, construction, defects and compliance.
- Experience managing contractors and project delivery.
- Ability to prepare specifications, reports and technical documents.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Full UK driving licence.
