I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

APC & Career Development
One of the particularly attractive aspects of this opportunity is the development and APC support available.
A Senior Building Surveyor within the existing team has recently successfully completed their own APC, meaning there is genuine experience within the team and an understanding of what is required to support someone progressing towards chartership.
The organisation is therefore open to Building Surveyors at different stages of their career, making this an excellent opportunity for someone looking for structured development and long-term progression within a client-side environment.
MRICS, MCIOB or MCABE would be desirable, although candidates who are working towards professional qualification will also be considered.
What’s on Offer?
- Predominantly home working
- Excellent client-side pension contributions
- Interesting projects valued up to £2m
- Genuine APC and professional development support
- Long-term career progression
- Varied client-side Building Surveying experience
- Opportunity to work alongside an experienced property team
- Excellent work-life balance
- A move away from the traditional consultancy environment
