Role description:
We have an exciting opportunity for a Building Surveyor to join our established Education Building Surveying team.
The core responsibilities will largely relate to our work with multiple Education clients across the UK, including universities, schools, and trusts, and Government. The successful candidate will be expected to be technically excellent and have a broad range and experience of building surveying expertise including capital works delivery and condition surveys.
The job will involve a mixed and varied workload with often the need to balance a number of different instructions simultaneously.
The candidate will largely be focused on service delivery, often working as part of a larger commission team and supporting to achieve exceptional outcomes for our clients. The candidate should be confident in dealing directly with clients.
You will be required to manage your time effectively to meet deadlines and ensuring time expended aligns with the cost forecast to ensure profitability of instructions, (financial performance responsibility).

Role accountabilities:
- The primary focus of this role is leading the delivery of capital works on educational assets.
- You’ll take on significant responsibility and accountability, with opportunities to develop both your managerial and technical skills, and progress within our growing, specialist team.
- Key duties include managing and delivering technical consultancy commissions—such as condition surveys and, occasionally, dilapidations—while ensuring clear and effective communication throughout each project.
- You’ll work closely with Project Managers and Team Leaders to maintain efficient financial control and provide a cost-effective service, keeping the Sector Director regularly updated on contract progress.
- In addition, you’ll help mentor and supervise junior building surveyors, supporting their development within the team.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Degree in Building Surveying
- Ideally MRICS qualified or working towards this
- Excellent technical ability.
- Multi-discipline experience.
- A broad thinker who can take a global view and has an inherent ability to deliver successfully.
- Ability to manage project risk.
- Ability to be flexible to meet tight project deadlines.
- Manage quality standards to ensure high quality output.
- Understand challenges faced by Education clients
- Understanding of both technical and legislative requirements along with a good commercial awareness.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills enabling strong working relationships with clients
