Position Summary

This position plans and directs the Institution’s buildings and grounds maintenance program and coordinates building construction/remodeling projects with the Department of Administration (DOA), Division of State Facilities (DSF). Responsibilities include maintaining buildings, property, equipment, and service systems in a safe and reliable operating condition.

This position works with the Warden, Deputy Warden, Security Director, and Correctional Management Services Director to develop the biennial capital building request and the DOC’s six-year building project plan; conducts inspections, develops project requests, and creates reports; acts as administrative duty officer as directed by the Warden, and performs other duties as assigned.

Salary Information

This position is in pay schedule and range 81-03 with a starting pay of $40.00/hour - $46.59/hour. Pay will be set in accordance with the Compensation Plan and Wisconsin Administrative Code in effect at the time of hire. A 12-month probationary period is required.

Job Details

Applicants must be legally entitled to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application. The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection to determine whether the circumstances of any conviction may be related to the job being filled. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.

The Department of Corrections may conduct pre-employment drug screens. Any applicant who is offered employment in a position which requires a pre-employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency to employment.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified applicants will have experience:

  • Planning and directing a buildings and grounds maintenance program.
  • Planning and supervision of construction and remodeling projects (e.g. coordinating and evaluating construction work, setting work order priorities, ensuring timely completion and proper standards of workmanship are met)
  • Supervision and/or leadership in managing day-to-day operations, including directing subordinate staff (assigning/reviewing work, conducting staff performance evaluations, etc.)

In addition to the above, well-qualified applicants will have experience:

  • Working with architects, engineers, and/or contractors in planning, funding, and completion of construction and remodeling projects.
  • Developing capital building requests and long-term building project plans.
  • Reviewing blueprints, bid specifications, and/or shop drawings for projects, ensuring that organizational goals and needs are met.
