We-Translate specializes in high-quality interpreting services delivered remotely by phone or video, as well as face to face. The company supports assignments across business, legal, medical, and conference/event settings, tailoring solutions to each organization’s interpreting needs. All interpreters are accredited linguists with Enhanced DBS checks and are matched to assignments based on relevant qualifications, subject knowledge, and field-specific experience. We-Translate also provides accurate translation services, including document translation, proofreading, back translation, app translation, and website localization, with attention to cultural nuances and industry standards.
Role Description
This is a contract role for a Bulgarian > English Interpreter supporting a face-to-face hearing at Wigan Family Court, WN1 1DW, on the 21st and 22nd of October 2026. The interpreter will facilitate clear, accurate, and impartial communication between Bulgarian- and English-speaking participants during family court proceedings, following professional codes of conduct and confidentiality requirements. Typical tasks include consecutive interpreting during hearings, clarifying legal terminology when appropriate, and ensuring that all parties fully understand questions, statements, and decisions. The role is hybrid, with the position based in Reading while some preparation, documentation, and follow-up tasks can be completed from home.

Qualifications

- Strong proficiency in Bulgarian and English, with excellent listening, speaking, and comprehension skills in both languages.
- Proven experience in legal or court interpreting, ideally in family law settings, including familiarity with legal terminology and procedures.
- Formal interpreting or translation qualification (e.g., Diploma in Public Service Interpreting, recognized interpreting certificate, or equivalent experience).
- Accreditation or registration with a relevant professional interpreting body and an active Enhanced DBS check, or eligibility to obtain one.
- Ability to maintain neutrality, confidentiality, and professional boundaries, with strong ethical judgment and cultural awareness.
- Excellent time management skills, reliability in attending scheduled hearings, and capacity to work effectively with legal professionals and court staff.
- Comfort working in hybrid arrangements, including onsite court assignments and remote administrative or preparation work.
- Previous experience with other legal, medical, or public sector interpreting assignments is an advantage.
