Job Title: Asbestos Bulk Analyst
Location: Chelmsford
Penguin Recruitment is delighted to be supporting a well-established UKAS-accredited asbestos consultancy in their search for an experienced Asbestos Bulk Analyst to join their laboratory team in Chelmsford.
This is an excellent opportunity for an Asbestos Bulk Analyst to join a respected consultancy with a strong reputation for delivering high-quality asbestos testing and consultancy services. The successful candidate will play a key role within the laboratory, analysing asbestos bulk samples while maintaining the highest standards of quality, accuracy, and UKAS compliance.
The Role
As an Asbestos Bulk Analyst, you will be responsible for the identification and analysis of asbestos-containing materials using polarised light microscopy (PLM) in accordance with HSG248 and UKAS procedures.

Working within a busy laboratory environment, the Asbestos Bulk Analyst will ensure samples are processed efficiently, accurately, and within agreed turnaround times while maintaining detailed records and supporting quality assurance procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Analysing asbestos bulk samples using polarised light microscopy (PLM)
- Identifying asbestos fibre types in accordance with HSG248 guidance
- Recording and reporting analytical findings accurately
- Maintaining laboratory equipment and ensuring calibration requirements are met
- Supporting UKAS quality management procedures and internal audits
- Processing samples within agreed turnaround times
- Maintaining a clean, organised, and safe laboratory environment
- Ensuring all work complies with current HSE guidance and laboratory procedures

What We're Looking For
- BOHS P401 qualification (or equivalent)
- Previous experience working as an Asbestos Bulk Analyst
- Good understanding of HSG248 and UKAS laboratory requirements
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong organisational and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively within a laboratory team
- Professional, reliable, and quality-focused approach to work
