Role details

We currently have a vacancy for two Bus Control Centre Assistant Managers to join our Mobility Services Team.

These are brand new roles, created to assist in managing a new centralised bus control centre function currently in development, as part of the transition to a franchised bus network in West Yorkshire. As Bus Control Centre Assistant Manager, you will be responsible for managing the staffing and coordination of the bus control centre to ensure an efficient operating structure during the normal operating hours of function, including the use and application of bespoke IT systems to monitor key team outputs.

In this high-profile role, you will have a real opportunity to apply your knowledge and experience to help shape and build centralised bus control across West Yorkshire. Working closely with colleagues across the Combined Authority and its partners, a key part of your responsibilities as Bus Control Centre Assistant Manager will be to manage the outputs relating to emergency road closures and understand the impact of road closures on daily operations. Your role will also be integral to supporting and influencing the future growth and development of the service, while helping to deliver the mayor’s promise of a better connected West Yorkshire through the Weaver Network.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
