Job Title: Bus Development Analyst (Safety or Comm)
Position Type: TfL Permanent
Grade: Pay Band 2
Salary: Circa £38,500 per annum depending on skills, knowledge and experience
Location: Palestra (Southwark - London) / Hybrid
Hybrid working within this role enables a balance of 50 per cent of time split between the office and home over a 4-week period. Hybrid working arrangements can evolve subject to business requirements.
Role Overview
The job holder will assist in further developing and delivering the Bus Safety Programme to achieve the Mayor's and TfL's Vision Zero targets for the bus network.
The job holder will work collaboratively within the Bus Safety Development team, and assist with key internal interfaces (e.g. SHE and Engineering) and external stakeholders (e.g. Bus Operators) to help deliver the Bus Action Plan safety requirements and the Bus Safety Strategy actions.
Key Accountabilities
- Receive, interpret, analyse and summarise data for senior managers both within Bus Operations and across the business to support the delivery of projects and programmes such as the Bus Safety Programme
- Explain and challenge root causes and effects, driving the identification and adoption of remedial actions across and within the Buses Contracts Development Team to assist senior managers in decision making such as initiating new projects or introducing new business as usual activity to the Bus Operations directorate
- Support the Bus Safety Development Manager in business case development, project initiation and sponsorship of projects through provision of data analysis and stakeholder management - developing and maintaining relationships within and across departments and with external stakeholders such as the bus operators and manufacturers
- Project management responsibility for short term analysis projects and programmes of work driving improved performance within bus contracts and encouraging a performance based culture both within TfL and with the bus operators
- Responsible for assisting the Bus Safety Development Manager in sponsoring the delivery of specific projects within the Bus Safety Programme, clienting delivery of work streams and engaging with relevant stakeholders to ensure buy-in and delivery to cost and time
- Align with wider road safety initiatives, air quality initiatives and healthy streets
- Support benchmarking exercises as required and assist in the development of necessary outcomes into strategic initiatives that will drive (safety and commercial) performance within bus contracts

Skills, Knowledge And Experience
Knowledge
- Broad knowledge of London’s public transport, with an understanding of Buses or other contracted operations (desirable)
- Understanding of Bus Operations and having a wide appreciation of the business environment (desirable)
- Being able to learn about a business area quickly and filter information (essential)
- Understanding of TfL and Bus Operations' business objectives (essential)
- Appreciate the political landscape and the Mayor's objectives for safety/public transport improvements (essential)
Skills
- Strong problem solving and analytic skills (essential)
- Excellent attention to detail, to ensure accuracy in requirements captured and business process flows documented (essential)
- Strong communication and influencing skills (desirable)
- The ability to assimilate new information quickly and accurately (essential)

- Experience of gathering, collating, analysing and publishing requirements in relevant formats (essential)

- Experience of an aspect of the public transport operating business (desirable)
- Experience of delivering strategy in the transport or safety sector (desirable)
