Lead a High-Performing Engineering Team at Stagecoach
At Stagecoach, our engineering teams keep communities moving. We're looking for an experienced and motivated Workshop Manager to lead our maintenance operation in Carlisle, supporting our fleet across our Cumbrian depots and ensuring our buses are safe, reliable, and ready for service every day. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled engineering professional who enjoys leading people, driving operational performance, and creating a culture of continuous improvement.
The Opportunity
Reporting directly to the Engineering Manager, you'll take ownership of the day-to-day workshop operation, leading teams to deliver outstanding maintenance standards while ensuring vehicles are available to meet operational requirements.
You will play a key role in:
- Leading and motivating workshop teams to achieve performance, safety, and reliability targets.
- Planning and controlling daily workshop loading and resource allocation.
- Ensuring all maintenance activities are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards.
- Delivering effective daily briefings, communicating priorities, targets, and action plans.
- Supporting engineers and technicians with fault diagnosis and complex technical issues.
- Driving continuous improvement initiatives to enhance fleet reliability and workshop performance.
- Maintaining a safe, secure, and well-managed depot environment for colleagues and visitors.
- Promoting a strong health and safety culture across the operation.

About You
You'll ideally have:
- A recognised professional engineering qualification.
- Previous experience leading workshop, engineering, or maintenance teams.
- Strong technical knowledge of vehicle maintenance and fault diagnosis.
- A passion for operational excellence and continuous improvement.
- Excellent communication and people management skills.
- The ability to motivate teams and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
- A keen eye for detail and a commitment to high standards of safety and compliance.
