Overview of project/role
Bus Performance Management sits at the heart of TfL's Bus Operations function, helping to ensure London's extensive bus network delivers a safe, reliable and high-quality service for millions of customers every day. Working across one of the world's largest and most complex public transport systems, the team uses operational insight, performance data and collaborative stakeholder relationships to drive continuous improvement, support service resilience and enhance the customer experience. Through a strong focus on performance, efficiency and operational excellence, the department plays a vital role in keeping London's bus network moving and meeting the needs of the capital's communities.
As a Buses HS2 Analyst & Coordinator, you'll coordinate information and assess the passenger and journey-time impacts of HS2 construction activities on TfL's bus network. You'll work with a range of performance, operational and commercial data to support the understanding of how planned works affect customers, services and revenue.
You'll support the Principal HS2 Analyst in applying TfL's agreed bus mitigation and compensation framework across HS2's programme of works. Working closely with colleagues across Bus Service Delivery, Public Transport Service Planning and Network Management, you'll bring together and analyse passenger, operational and commercial information, helping to identify impacts and support the effective recovery of associated costs and lost revenue from HS2.
Key Accountabilities
- Analyse HS2 impacts by assessing journey times, service performance, operational feedback and network data to understand the effects of HS2 construction works on the bus network
- Support service planning and cost recovery by working with colleagues across Bus Network Performance and Public Transport Service Planning to identify short and long-term service changes, while capturing associated costs and revenue impacts
- Monitor and improve network performance by tracking service quality on affected routes, identifying areas for improvement and supporting the implementation of performance enhancement measures
- Validate operational changes by ensuring new bus schedules and service arrangements resulting from HS2 works are accurately reviewed and meet required standards
- Coordinate HS2-related costs and infrastructure changes by collating, documenting and tracking bus infrastructure, operational and passenger-facing impacts, ensuring timely approval and implementation
- Build strong stakeholder relationships by developing effective partnerships with TfL teams and colleagues involved in the wider HS2 programme
- Manage communications and implementation by keeping bus operators informed of HS2 work package updates and ensuring agreed operational measures are accurately reflected in TfL systems ahead of construction activities commencing

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

We are committed to equality, diversity and inclusion and aim to reflect the diverse communities we serve. We believe that a diverse workforce enables us to deliver better services and outcomes. Our goal is to make our recruitment as inclusive as possible. As a Disability Confident Leader, we actively encourage applications from disabled people. As part of the Disability Confident scheme, we aim to offer an assessment or interview to candidates who apply via the scheme where the minimum essential criteria for skills, knowledge and experience have been met. In some circumstances, it may not be practical to offer an interview or assessment to every candidate who applies through the scheme and meet the minimum essential criteria; in these situations, we select candidates who best meet the minimum criteria for the job rather than interviewing all who meet them.
Across all recruitment activity, we recognise that selection methods may vary depending on the nature and scale of the campaign and will be applied fairly, consistently and proportionately in line with our Disability Confident commitments.
