Bus Spray Painter

Location: Exeter Depot

Reporting to: Engineering Manager / Workshop Manager/ Paint Shop Supervisor

Join Our Engineering Team!

We're looking for a skilled Bus Spray Painter to join our Engineering team at Exeter Depot. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced and quality-focused individual to play a key role in maintaining the appearance and presentation of our fleet. Working within a busy workshop environment, you'll be responsible for preparing, painting, and refinishing passenger service vehicles to the highest standards. From full vehicle repaints and accident repairs to refurbishment projects and branding applications, you'll help ensure our fleet looks its best while supporting vehicle availability and operational performance.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Preparing vehicle panels and bodywork for painting and fabrication, including sanding, filling, masking, priming, and panel preparation.
  • Applying paint finishes using spray-painting equipment in line with manufacturer and company specifications.
  • Carrying out full vehicle repaints, spot repairs, accident damage repairs, refurbishment, and restoration work.
  • Applying company liveries, decals, branding, and graphics to vehicles.
  • Mixing paints, coatings, and materials accurately to achieve required colour matches and high-quality finishes.
  • Inspecting completed work to ensure it meets company quality and presentation standards.
  • Maintaining spray booths, paint equipment, tools, and work areas in a clean, organised, and safe condition.
  • Following all COSHH, Health & Safety, environmental, and waste disposal procedures.
  • Working closely with engineers, body repair technicians, and workshop colleagues to minimise vehicle downtime.
  • Completing maintenance records, repair documentation, and job cards accurately.
  • Supporting depot initiatives relating to fleet presentation, refurbishment, and vehicle availability.
  • Undertaking basic fabrication and welding activities where required.
  • Using welding and fabrication skills to support vehicle repairs, modifications, and refurbishment projects.

What We're Looking For

  • Previous experience as a Vehicle Spray Painter.
  • Strong knowledge of vehicle paint preparation and application techniques.
  • Experience using spray-painting equipment and paint booth facilities.
  • Experience within Bus, HGV, coach, commercial vehicle, or automotive painting environments would be advantageous.
  • Knowledge of modern paint systems is desirable.
  • Experience of accident repair work, body preparation, and vehicle refurbishment would be beneficial.
  • Experience applying vehicle liveries, decals, and branding is advantageous.
  • Good understanding of Health & Safety requirements within a workshop environment, including COSHH regulations.
  • A PCV licence is advantageous, although support may be available for the right candidate to obtain one.
  • Full UK driving licence.
