About The Role
Business Administration Apprenticeship
The Thames Water Shared Apprenticeship Scheme is looking for a Business Administration Apprentice in the Guildford area.
This apprenticeship is part of The Thames Water Shared Apprenticeship Scheme, a programme sponsored by Thames Water to address the skills gaps within their supply chain. The scheme includes a compulsory industry rotation to provide apprentices with experience in different environments and increase their chances of future employment in the sector.
Job Description
Administrators, sometimes known in construction settings as Document Control Officers, require a broad range of skills to work efficiently and help increase business productivity. The function is integral to any construction organization as they process and manage various procedures, paperwork, communications, permits, orders, etc. Duties typically include:
- Using content management systems to maintain internal databases
- Organizing and storing paperwork, documents, and computer-based information
- Devising and maintaining office systems
- Booking rooms, attending meetings, taking minutes, and keeping notes
- Managing and maintaining budgets, as well as invoicing
- Liaising with staff in other departments and with external contacts
- Ordering and maintaining stationery and equipment
- Sorting and distributing incoming post and organizing and sending outgoing post
- Photocopying and printing various documents, sometimes on behalf of other colleagues
- Organizing & Delivering Site Inductions
- Collecting and Storing Health & Safety documentation
- Using a variety of software packages, such as Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, etc., to produce correspondence and documents and maintain presentations, records, spreadsheets, and databases
Office-Based Role - This role involves prolonged periods of desk-based work, computer use, and telephone communication within an office environment. K10 Apprenticeships will consider reasonable adjustments where possible to support individuals in carrying out the essential duties of the role.

Typical Working Week
40 hours per week with start time typically between 07:00 & 08:00 inclusive of paid 8 hours at college.
Person Specification
- A 'can do' attitude – willing to get stuck in, take accountability for decisions and actions, and who takes pride in their work
- A love of variety in a role and ability to adapt to a dynamic, fast-paced working environment
- Ability to quickly prioritize tasks and the initiative to dive head-first into problem solving
- No two days are the same on the front line and not every day goes to plan, so you’ll need to be quick on your feet to respond!
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills and enjoy working with multiple teams
- Ability to analyse and interpret information and effectively communicate this to different team members and audiences
- Ability to travel freely across our patch to visit different sites and travel to training days
- Curiosity to learn quickly in a reactive and dynamic working environment
- Ability to work in all weather conditions to serve our customers and protect the environment
- Able to understand and follow health and safety protocols
Minimum Requirements
- English and Maths at GCSE Grade 3 or above, or Functional Skills at Level 1 or above.

Desired Requirements
It will be an advantage if you have some previous related work experience and you should be confident using ICT and Microsoft Office.

K10 will enroll you in the Level 3 Business Administration course and fund your qualifications through an accredited training provider.
The apprenticeship duration is 18 months with an additional 3 months for your End Point Assessment (EPA).
Eligibility
To Start This Apprenticeship, You’ll Need To Be
- Living in England for the last 3 years and have the right to work status
- Not enrolled on any other courses
- 18+ due to site H&S rules
- Have a full UK Driving Licence and full access to your own vehicle
