Are you looking to start your career in business administration?

As a Level 2 Business Administrator Apprentice, you'll gain practical experience in a busy and supportive team while working towards a recognised qualification, supported every step of the way by experienced colleagues.

Wage

£15,392 a year

Minimum wage rates (opens in new tab)

Your initial apprentice salary will be £15,392 p.a for your first year and will go up to National Minimum Wage if you are 19+ when you start the 2nd year of your apprenticeship. All your training will be funded by us.

Hours

This is a full-time position working Monday to Friday. Apprentices will be expected to attend the office regularly, particularly during induction and training. Any hybrid working arrangements will be subject to business need and manager approval. Working hours TBC.

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.

What you'll do at work

You will work towards being able to undertake the range of duties listed below:

  • Provide general administrative and clerical support
  • Respond to customer and colleague enquiries by telephone, email and Microsoft Teams
  • Process, input, maintain and retrieve information from council systems and databases
  • Produce documents, reports and correspondence
  • Support meetings, including preparing paperwork and taking minutes
  • Order stationery and office supplies
  • Support managers and colleagues with a variety of administrative tasks
  • Develop an understanding of council policies, procedures and business processes
  • Deliver excellent customer service to internal and external customers

What you'll learn

Course contents

  • Receive, retrieve, process, record and store information and data.
  • Operate within organisational policies, standards and procedures and relevant legislation respecting confidentiality; adapting to operational changes as they occur.
  • Use software packages and tools for example AI or automation to input and process data and information, to contribute to routine administration tasks in line with organisational policies and procedures.
  • Handle and communicate information in line with organisational policies, procedures and security requirements.
  • Recognise and rectify issues and escalate as required. For example stakeholder documents and reports, safeguarding concerns or abusive behaviour.
  • Plan and review administration tasks allocated by supervisor.
  • Maintain professional relationships with stakeholders.
  • Monitor and report on the use of resources such as materials, equipment and supplies.
  • Use agreed organisational systems and protocols to manage calendars, diaries and booking systems.
  • Source information as requested by stakeholders, ensuring they are shareable. As examples client records, signpost to services or reports.
  • Use continuing professional development including self-reflection to support current and future training and development needs.
  • Use communication tools to respond to stakeholders using professional language and organisational etiquette.
  • Operate within agreed health and safety standards.
  • Use time management tools to meet deadlines.
  • Handle feedback following expected professional etiquette.
  • Maintain wellbeing, accessing organisational support mechanisms if required.
  • Review and check own work.
  • Use cloud services to share documents for use and or collaboration.
  • Protect against security threats for example, strong passwords, two step verification, office tailgating and display of security passes or clothing that identifies secure workplaces.
  • Seek clarification and help, when required, to complete assigned tasks within agreed timeframes.

Training schedule

As part of this role, you will undertake a level 2 apprenticeship in Business Administration

Your training will be completed online with a dedicated tutor who will support you in your studies

You will be given time each a week to work on your apprenticeship training

Essential qualifications

  • GCSE in:
    • English (grade A*-G/9-1)
    • maths (grade A*-G / 9-1)

Other requirements

Our apprenticeship roles are on a fixed term contract for the duration of the apprenticeship. Level 2 is usually for about 15-months.

The ability to converse with ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the post (Code of Practice: English language requirements for public sector workers 2016).

Pre-employment Checks: Appointment will be subject to satisfactory pre-employment checks, including a Basic DBS check.

Corporate Business Support

Provides professional administrative support to services across Buckinghamshire Council. You'll be joining a friendly and supportive team with experience of mentoring apprentices and trainees and helping them develop the skills and confidence needed to succeed in the workplace.
