Business Analyst Apprenticeship

This is an exciting opportunity to combine formal business analysis learning with practical experience, helping NIS Ltd to capture, share and make better use of the knowledge and experience within our organisation.

Wage: £16,931.20 a year

Training course: Business analyst (level 4)

Hours: 37 hours per week, worked over four days. Monday to Thursday, 9 hours and 15 minutes per day, with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break each day. The 9 hours can be flexible between the hours of 6.00am and 6.00pm.

Start date: Monday 12 October 2026

Duration: 1 year 6 months

What you'll do at work

  • Support business and knowledge analysis activities, including stakeholder interviews, workshops, requirements gathering and process/knowledge-flow mapping.
  • Support LFE capture, review and analysis, translating project and operational experience into clear, structured and reusable learning
  • Assist with tacit knowledge capture from subject matter experts using interviews, walkthroughs, observation, storytelling and other appropriate methods
  • Help maintain and improve KM systems, registers and SharePoint resources, including taxonomy, metadata, data quality, searchability, AI and content organisation
  • Analyse KM/LFE information to identify themes, recurring issues and improvement opportunities, and develop clear knowledge resources such as guides, briefings, videos and case studies
  • Work with project and functional teams to identify knowledge needs and gaps, embed KM into ways of working, and support KM communications, knowledge-sharing and improvement activities

  • Apply appropriate approaches to scope, plan and perform Business Analysis
  • Communicate effectively in a variety of situations with a range of stakeholders
  • Apply a range of structured investigation techniques to a business situation
  • Produce an outline definition of a business situation using an appropriate technique
  • Apply appropriate techniques to identify problems and opportunities within a business situation
  • Support the identification and presentation of proposed actions to stakeholders in order to gain agreement for further analysis activity
  • Apply appropriate techniques to analyse and document options and recommendations for change
  • Elicit process information from stakeholders
  • Model business processes using relevant techniques, standards, notation and software tools
  • Analyse business process models to identify opportunities for improvement
  • Produce models of redesigned business processes
  • Elicit requirements from stakeholders to identify business and user needs
  • Document clear functional and non-functional requirements in line with local standards
  • Analyse documented requirements to remove duplication, conflict and overlap
  • Prioritise requirements using an appropriate prioritisation approach
  • Validate requirements with stakeholders
  • Support the establishment of requirements traceability
  • Elicit business data needs from relevant sources
  • Support the development of simple data models using relevant techniques, standards, notation and software tools
  • Document current business situations to enable gap analysis and decision making
  • Support the development of models of future state business situations
  • Identify key differences between current and future business situations
  • Identify actions required to move from the current to future business situation
  • Define acceptance criteria for business and system changes
  • Support business acceptance of business and system changes
  • Apply relevant techniques to research and identify stakeholders
  • Analyse and document stakeholders' areas of interest and influence
  • Support the development of cost/benefit analysis for proposed business changes
  • Evaluate and document the key impacts on people, process, organisation, technology and information
  • Present information in a manner appropriate to the audience

The apprenticeship will be delivered with a blend of online & onsite meetings with the assessor every 4 - 6 weeks until completion of the apprenticeship.

Essential qualifications

  • GCSE in:
    • English (grade A* - C / 9 - 4)
    • Maths (grade A* - C / 9 - 4)

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

NIS operates within the nuclear sector, which can include areas such as nuclear power generation, defence, and related industries. Due to the nature of the work, successful candidates must be willing to undergo security clearance and DBS checks and must have the legal right to work in the UK.
