The Role
We are looking for an experienced Business Analyst to work closely with software development teams, helping to understand, analyse and document complex technical processes and system interactions.
This role would suit a BA who is comfortable working beyond customer-facing journeys and has a strong understanding of what happens “under the hood” — including how systems interact, how APIs and integrations work, and how front-end and back-end components come together to deliver an end-to-end service.
You’ll be responsible for translating business and technical requirements into clear, structured documentation and visualisations, working closely with technical and delivery teams throughout the development lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
- Work closely with software development and technical teams to understand business and system requirements.
- Analyse and document end-to-end processes, system interactions and technical workflows.
- Understand and map how front-end and back-end systems interact.
- Develop an understanding of APIs, system integrations and data flows.
- Create clear process maps, flow diagrams and system visualisations using Lucid or similar tools such as Mural.
- Support the definition and documentation of requirements for technical solutions.
- Work collaboratively with developers, architects, testers and wider stakeholders.
- Identify dependencies, gaps, risks and opportunities across processes and system interactions.
- Help ensure requirements are clearly understood and can be translated into effective technical solutions.
- Contribute throughout the delivery lifecycle, from discovery and analysis through to implementation.

Essential Experience
- Proven experience working as a Business Analyst within software development teams.
- Strong understanding of APIs, system integrations and technical processes.
- Understanding of the differences and interactions between front-end and back-end systems.
- Experience analysing end-to-end service delivery and system interactions.
- Ability to understand and document what happens behind the customer-facing journey, rather than focusing solely on forms or user journeys.
- Strong process mapping and flow diagramming experience.
- Experience using Lucid for process mapping and flow diagrams is highly desirable; experience with Mural or similar tools will also be considered.
- Ability to communicate complex technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience working collaboratively within Agile/software development environments.
- Strong experience as a Business Analyst on UK Central Government or wider public sector projects.
