Business Analyst
ESP is delivering an increasing portfolio of regulatory, operational, commercial, and technology-enabled change initiatives. As the volume and complexity of change grows, robust business analysis capability is essential to ensure initiatives are properly understood, designed, and implemented successfully.
The Business Analyst will provide dedicated expertise in business process analysis, requirements definition, impact assessment, and solution design. Working across a diverse portfolio of change initiatives, the role will help ensure that solutions are aligned to business needs, operational realities, and strategic objectives.
Role Purpose
To lead the discovery, analysis, and design of business processes and requirements, ensuring change initiatives are shaped by a clear understanding of business needs, stakeholder alignment operational impacts, data and system dependencies, improvement opportunities, and measurable business outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Discovery & Analysis
- Lead discovery activities to understand business challenges, objectives, pain points, and opportunities.
- Facilitate workshops, interviews, and stakeholder engagement to gather and validate requirements.
- Analyse business problems, identify root causes, and define clear requirements for change initiatives.
- Analyse data, reporting, and information flow requirements to support effective solution design and operational decision-making.
Process Improvement & Solution Design
- Develop current-state and future-state process maps to identify improvement opportunities.
- Support the design of efficient, scalable processes and technology-enabled solutions.
- Ensure proposed solutions remain aligned to business objectives, operational & regulatory requirements, and expected outcomes.
- Support the definition of expected benefits, success measures, and outcome indicators for change initiatives.
Impact Assessment & Validation
- Assess the impact of proposed changes across processes, systems, data, and operational teams.
- Define acceptance criteria and support validation activities to ensure solutions meet business needs.
- Identify risks, dependencies, and readiness considerations early in the change lifecycle.

Governance & Decision Support
- Produce requirements documentation, impact assessments, business cases, and governance materials.
- Support steering groups and governance forums through structured analysis and evidence-based recommendations.
- Support prioritisation of requirements based on business value, risk, regulatory need, and delivery constraints.
- Provide quality reporting and documentation that supports informed decision-making.
Change Adoption & Operational Readiness
- Support user acceptance testing by helping define test scenarios, validating outputs against requirements, and supporting defect resolution.
- Support operational readiness by contributing to training needs, user guidance, handover materials, and business adoption planning.
Continuous Improvement
- Promote a data-driven and process-led approach to business change.
- Support the identification of opportunities to improve operational efficiency, governance, and business outcomes.
- Contribute to reducing delivery risk and avoidable rework through robust upfront analysis.
Key Skills
Essential:
- Proven experience working as a Business Analyst or similar role within a complex, multi-stakeholder environment.
- Strong experience in business process analysis, process mapping, and continuous improvement.
- Demonstrable experience of requirements elicitation, documentation, and validation.
- Experience working across business and technology teams to translate business needs into structured requirements and solution recommendations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify root causes and define practical solutions.
- Experience facilitating stakeholder workshops, interviews, and structured discovery sessions.
- Experience assessing business impacts, risks, dependencies, and operational considerations associated with change initiatives.
- Strong commercial awareness, with an understanding of value, trade-offs, prioritisation, and business outcomes.
- Excellent organisational, planning, and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple analysis activities concurrently.
- Strong written communication skills with experience producing governance materials, business cases, reports, and decision-support documentation.

Desirable:
- Experience supporting technology-enabled change or system implementation projects.
- Experience within a regulated or utilities environment.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics, CRM platforms, or similar enterprise systems.
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or equivalent continuous improvement qualification.
- Experience contributing to business cases, governance forums, or executive reporting.
