Job Description
Business Analyst in Insurance
Key responsibilities

Requirements discovery & stakeholder management
- Elicit and clarify needs from users, missions, projects and other UW-tooling teams
- Use impact checklists to identify impacted areas or applications
- Translate “The Ask” style briefs into scoped epics/stories with in/out of scope and open decisions called out
- Maintain strong client orientation with end users (DataOps, UWs)

Story writing & backlog readiness
- Author stories using As a / I want / So that, problem context, and Given / When / Then acceptance criteria
- Drive tickets through analysis → High Level Refinement → Low Level Refinement → Dev Backlog as per team ways of working
- Meet Definition of Ready: INVEST, clear acceptance criteria, constraints & complexity noted, no blocking external dependencies, designs/mockups where relevant including liaising with UX designers
- Document field dictionaries, journey variants, and application-specific behavior
- Flag external dependencies explicitly

Domain & data modelling (with Architect / PO)
- Keep vocabulary consistent in stories and Confluence
- Specify business rules for different party roles
- Map cross-system identifiers impacted by the user stories
- Support API/event contract clarity for consumers

Documentation (Documentation Charter)
- Draft Confluence feature pages: business context, functional overview, flows, dependencies
- Keep Jira as source of Acceptance Criteria; Confluence for stakeholder-visible specs and meeting/workshop outcomes

Delivery collaboration (cross-functional Agile member)
- Attend and contribute to High/Low Level Refinement, demos, retros, and planning
- Support incident validation and bug triaging when business clarification is needed
- Present clearly in demos and share ownership of outcomes with the team
- Collaborate constructively with PO on prioritisation and stakeholder communication

UAT / acceptance & change coordination
- Support DataOps / business UAT
- Help coordinate consumer impact for event/schema changes and go-lives
Essential skills & experience
Must have
- Proven BA experience in Agile/Scrum software delivery (story writing, INVEST, DoR, refinement)
- Strong stakeholder facilitation across product, ops, and engineering
- Comfort with data-rich domains
- Clear Given/When/Then AC and process/flow mapping (Miro/Confluence)
- Ability to work multi-timezone, collaborative, feedback-friendly team culture
Strongly preferred
- Insurance / (re)insurance / Lloyd’s or UW tooling experience.
- Experience specifying API/event contracts and cross-system data mappings
- Familiarity with Jira Software workflows (analysis → HL/LL refinement → backlog)
Nice to have
- Basic SQL / JSON schema literacy for validating examples
