Business Analyst at General Index (GX)

Reporting to the VP, Analytics, the Business Analyst will:
- Elicit, document, and manage requirements for new features and platform improvements, working with product managers, engineers, and commercial stakeholders
- Translate complex business needs into clear user stories, acceptance criteria, and functional specifications that engineering teams can act on
- Facilitate discovery workshops, stakeholder interviews, and prioritization sessions to surface requirements and align teams around what to build next
- Own and maintain backlog items, ensuring tickets are well-scoped and sprint-ready
- Analyze usage patterns, customer behavior, and market data to surface trends and commercial opportunities
- Build dashboards, models, and reports that equip sales, product, and leadership with actionable insight
- Partner with the research and data teams to validate hypotheses and stress-test assumptions
- Identify gaps or inconsistencies in data quality and work with engineering to resolve them
- Produce clear, well-structured written deliverables — from one-pagers to detailed business cases — that stand alone with a non-technical audience
- Contribute ideas that help shape the future of GX's product offering
- Develop and integrate AI into daily workflows to optimize efficiencies

This role offers an opportunity to grow your expertise at the intersection of product and data, develop deep market knowledge in commodities intelligence, and gain commercial exposure in an inclusive, collaborative environment that values continuous learning.
Requirements
- 2–5 years in a business analyst, data analyst, or product analyst role, ideally in a B2B SaaS or data-driven environment
- Strong requirements gathering and documentation skills — you know how to run a good discovery session and write a spec people actually use
- Comfortable with data: SQL or similar querying skills, experience with BI tools (e.g. Tableau, Looker, Power BI), and an eye for data quality
- Experience working in agile teams, with a good working knowledge of tools like Jira and Confluence
- Excellent written and verbal communication — you can translate technical complexity for a commercial audience and vice versa
- Solution driven, naturally curious, possess a high level of numerical ability, and are proficient in Microsoft Excel
- Accuracy and attention to detail are exceptional
- An interest in commodities or financial markets data, with a strong desire to learn more
- Committed to consistently demonstrating professionalism with colleagues, customers, and the public to positively represent GX
