Business Analyst - Commodities Trading

Location: Central London (Onsite)
Engagement: Contract | Approx. 3 days per week onsite
Sector: Energy / Commodities Trading Technology

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Business Analyst with a strong Commodities Trading background to support a short-term trading technology engagement in London. This is a technology-facing BA role requiring someone who understands both the commodities trading business and the systems/data that support trading activities.

You will work closely with business stakeholders and technology teams to understand requirements, analyze trading processes and data flows, and translate business needs into clear functional and technical requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with trading and technology stakeholders to understand business needs, processes, and system requirements.
  • Gather, analyze, and document business and functional requirements.
  • Translate trading requirements into clear specifications for technology and engineering teams.
  • Analyze end-to-end trading workflows, business processes, and associated data flows.
  • Understand existing trading applications, interfaces, and dependencies and assess the impact of proposed changes.
  • Work closely with technical teams on solution design and ensure proposed solutions meet business requirements.
  • Support data analysis, mapping, and validation where required.
  • Facilitate discussions between business and technology teams and help resolve requirement or solution gaps.
  • Support testing, implementation, and business acceptance of technology changes.

Required Experience

  • Strong Business Analysis experience within Commodities / Energy Trading.
  • Hands-on domain experience across Oil, Gas, and/or Power trading.
  • Good understanding of the commodity trading lifecycle and associated technology landscape.
  • Experience working within Commodities IT / Trading Technology environments.
  • Strong requirements gathering, process analysis, and documentation skills.
  • Good understanding of trading systems, data flows, and system integrations.
  • Ability to work effectively with both business stakeholders and technical/engineering teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Background

  • Previous experience within an energy trading company, commodity trading house, investment bank, or financial institution with a significant commodities trading operation.
  • Exposure to ETRM/CTRM or other commodities trading platforms.
