Job Overview

We are looking for a commercially minded professional to drive business performance through sales analysis, consumer insights, and financial planning for POP MART's European business.

This role sits within the Merchandising department, acting as a strategic bridge between commercial operations and financial control. You will work across the full spectrum of business performance, from analysing sales trends, consumer behaviour, to facilitating the budgeting process and monitoring profitability.

Collaborating closely with Retail Operations, Finance, Marketing, and Business Development, you will support data-driven strategies and ensure the financial viability of market activities. This hybrid role requires strong analytical capability combined with solid financial acumen, suited for a proactive, detail-oriented professional comfortable moving from granular transaction details to high-level financial strategy.

What You Will Achieve

Sales Performance & Consumer Analysis

  • Sales Reporting & Tracking: Establish and maintain daily, weekly, and monthly sales performance dashboards. Monitor sales operations and retail KPIs across physical stores, vending machines, and e-commerce channels.
  • Consumer Insights: Analyse purchasing patterns, customer demographics, and product preferences to identify consumer trends. Translate these insights into actionable recommendations for product assortment and inventory planning.
  • Product Performance Deep-Dive: Conduct SKU-level performance analysis to identify winning products, slow movers, and seasonal trends. Provide detailed post-launch evaluations to guide future product development and buying decisions.
  • Market Intelligence: Analyse the performance of different markets and retail locations, benchmarking product performance against regional trends and competitive landscapes.

Financial Planning, Budgeting & Cost Analysis

  • Budgeting & Forecasting: Streamline the annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting processes. Align sales forecasts with inventory procurement plans and financial targets.
  • P&L Management: Monitor P&L from a commercial perspective to ensure profitability of market activities, and conduct scenario modelling to identify optimal outcomes aligned with business goals.
  • Cost Analysis: Analyse operations costs, business expenses, and supply chain variables. Work with the Finance and Logistics teams to identify cost-saving opportunities and mitigate margin erosion.
  • Financial Variance Analysis: Track actual financial performance against budget and forecast. Investigate variances to explain performance gaps and recommend corrective actions.

Strategic Business Insights & Reporting

  • Integrated Reporting: Combine sales data with financial data to produce comprehensive business reviews. Move beyond simple data listing to provide business-focused conclusions, recommendations, and risk assessments.
  • Inventory Health: Assess inventory turnover, stock valuation, and ageing distribution to identify risks and opportunities. Provide actionable insights to optimise stock levels, minimise markdowns, and improve working capital efficiency.
  • Scenario Modelling: Support related teams with "what-if" analysis for promotional activities, pricing changes, and new product launches to predict financial outcomes.

  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Act as the key liaison among stakeholders to align statistical definitions, resolve data discrepancies, and ensure management reporting is accurate and reliable.
  • Data Architecture: Extract and process data from ERP, CRM, and business systems using SQL. Build and maintain automated dashboards (Power Query/Power BI) to improve data visibility and reduce manual reporting efforts.
  • Process Improvement: Support the standardisation of data fields, statistical rules, and financial templates to strengthen data governance and ensure consistency across the European business.

What You Will Need

  • Experience: 3-5 years of experience in Business Analysis, Financial Controlling, Commercial Analysis, or Management Consulting. Experience in retail, consumer goods, or e-commerce is a must. Candidates with a background combining both sales analysis and financial planning are highly preferred.
  • Financial Acumen: Strong understanding of P&L structures, cost accounting, budgeting, and variance analysis.
  • Analytical Skills: Outstanding analytical and problem-solving abilities. Data-sensitive with a strong ability to identify business trends and issues through quantitative analysis.
  • Technical Skills: Advanced skills in Excel and proficiency with data visualisation tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or Looker are essential. Experience with SQL for data extraction and manipulation, as well as Google Analytics for digital consumer insights, is preferred.
  • Communication: Fluency in English required; Mandarin Chinese is a strong advantage. Ability to present complex data to non-technical stakeholders clearly and confidently.
  • Mindset: Proactive, hands-on, and entrepreneurial. Comfortable working in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Desirable But Not Essential

  • Experience in the toy industry, collectibles, or pop culture retail sector.
  • Familiarity with local and European retail landscapes.
  • Understanding of designer toy and art toy market trends.
  • Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and CRM platforms.
  • Exposure to data governance, reporting automation, or process improvement initiatives.
