Business Analyst – Finance

Leading Renewable Energy Developer

Location: Durham (Hybrid Working)

Salary: £45,000 - £65,000 DOE + Excellent Benefits Package

Working Pattern: 3 days per week in the Durham office

Circular Resourcing are recruiting for a Business Analyst to join its Finance team in Durham.

Our client is one of the UK's most exciting renewable energy businesses, delivering some of the country's largest and most innovative onshore wind, solar, and battery energy storage projects.

About the Role

As a Business Analyst, you'll work closely with Finance, IT, and senior stakeholders to deliver high-quality financial analysis, reporting, and business insights. You'll help develop and enhance the systems, models, and processes that underpin management reporting, forecasting, and strategic planning activities across the Group.

This role offers a unique blend of financial analysis, systems development, and business partnering, making it ideal for someone who enjoys turning complex data into meaningful commercial insights.

Somebody with experience and a strong background in managing forecasting through complex data sets and analysing data, with demonstrable skills across systems like Excel / Power Query / SQL / Power BI would be well suited.

Systems & Process Development

  • Develop, improve, and maintain financial models that support business performance and reporting requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with Finance and IT teams to enhance and maintain a centralised financial database, ensuring data accuracy, accessibility, and consistency across the business.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, identifying opportunities to automate processes and improve efficiency.
  • Leverage Microsoft 365 tools, including emerging AI capabilities, to enhance reporting, analysis, and operational effectiveness.
  • Ensure models, processes, and reporting tools are scalable, user-friendly, and well-documented.

Financial Planning & Analysis

  • Support the production of monthly management accounts and financial reporting across the Group.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and long-term business planning activities, including P&L, balance sheet, cash flow, and KPI reporting.
  • Analyse historical and current financial performance to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Provide financial modelling and analysis to support strategic decision-making.
  • Assist with external reporting requirements and audit processes.
  • Deliver ad hoc analysis and reporting for the CFO, Finance Director, and wider senior leadership team.

About You

We're looking for a commercially minded and analytically driven professional who combines strong financial knowledge with excellent technical and problem-solving skills.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualified or part-qualified.
  • Strong understanding of financial reporting, planning, and analysis.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including financial modelling.
  • Exceptional analytical and numerical abilities.
  • Experience mapping business processes and working with data models.
  • Knowledge and experience of using Microsoft Power BI and SQL.
  • Experience working with large datasets and reporting systems.
  • Previous experience within an infrastructure, energy, utilities, or renewable energy environment.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex information to non-financial stakeholders.
