Business Analyst - Finance
Location: Leeds - hybrid
Contract: Outside IR35, competitive market rate
Duration: 3 months initially, with a strong chance of extension
The role
We're looking for a Business Analyst with genuine accountancy and finance knowledge to help shape the redevelopment of a core business platform.
This is much more than a BA role where finance is simply the subject matter. You'll need to understand how finance and billing processes actually work, be able to challenge and improve them, and translate that knowledge into what should be built.
The ideal background is someone who has worked in FinTech or a technology-led finance environment, with hands-on exposure to areas such as Stripe, bank feeds, bank integrations and modernising accountancy processes. It's the ability to shape how these processes should work in a new platform that's particularly important.
You'll also need to be actively using AI in your day to day work - both to improve your own productivity and to help shape better outputs and outcomes.
Alongside the finance knowledge, you'll be working closely with an Engineering team building bespoke software, so experience working with developers to take ambiguous business problems through discovery, requirements and into delivery is essential.
Responsibilities
- Lead discovery sessions and workshops with Finance, Credit Control and wider business stakeholders.
- Understand existing finance, accounting and billing processes and identify opportunities to improve or modernise them.
- Shape how Finance & Billing processes should work within a new bespoke platform.
- Translate complex business processes and rules into clear, structured requirements for Engineering.
- Work closely with an Engineering squad and maintain hands-on ownership of the backlog.
- Analyse processes covering orders, billing, invoicing, disputes, credit calculations and associated data.
- Identify gaps, dependencies and risks, helping the team prioritise what needs to be built.
- Challenge existing processes where appropriate rather than simply documenting the current state.
- Support requirements through development and delivery, working closely with software engineers.
- Use AI actively in day-to-day BA work to improve productivity, quality and outcomes.
- Work confidently with senior stakeholders and provide challenge where required.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
