Business Analyst / Product Owner, Multi-Asset Research
A buy-side firm is re-platforming its multi-asset research system, replacing a legacy proprietary platform with a new in-house build. It needs a business analyst or product owner to work on the transformation. The team now works in a highly agile way.
The current system
The current system covers the end-to-end research process. Researchers use it to write investment theses and ideas and to assign ratings, and CIOs and portfolio managers use those research ideas. It also provides third-party access and broker research.
The new system
The new system will run entirely on a cloud data platform, with a new UI layer, AI assistance and agentic workflow orchestration. Functionally, the focus is the research authoring workflow, with humans in the loop. The aim is to move from fragmented tools to a single workspace through a gradual transition.

The programme
- Currently in the discovery phase. Design principles, goals and KPIs are being set this quarter, and execution starts in January.
- Multi-year, with budget in place for the overall programme.
- One of the organisation's top priorities, under investment performance, with senior executive support.
- A combination of lift-and-shift and technical and functional re-platforming.
- Proofs of concept using the data platform's native AI services will inform design decisions.
The role
- Revamp the multi-asset research product as it moves to the new platform.
- Define the target operating model.
- Review all research workflows and identify those that could move to AI.
- Translate the needs of researchers, CIOs and portfolio managers into requirements for the in-house build.

Experience required
- Experience of large-scale transformation and redefining an operating model is essential.
- Knowledge of core workflows: multi-asset research, tactical research, analytics, research authoring, portfolio management and portfolio construction.
- Ideally, experience of AI or LLM projects, including building an AI-embedded workflow.
- Experience of replacing a legacy platform with a new one, from the start of the transformation.
- Data awareness: you will not build the data layer, but you must understand its subdomains and semantic layer.
Technical skills
- Good SQL is needed.
- The team uses generative AI tools to build prototypes, so prompt engineering experience is useful.
