Business Analyst, 12-month Fixed Term Contract

Salary: £40,000 – £45,000, dependent on experience

Hours: Full-time, 37 hours per week

Location: Hybrid working, with 2 days per week in Preston, Lancashire

Remote-working contracts can be considered for candidates living 50+ miles from our Preston office, but some travel to Preston will be required.

A glance at the role:

We’re looking for an experienced Business Analyst to join our Change Team on a 12-month fixed-term contract and play a key role in helping LPPA deliver meaningful technological change, process improvement and better outcomes for the employers and members we support.

This is a great opportunity to use your analytical mindset, stakeholder engagement skills and process improvement experience to understand how our services work today, identify where we can do things better, and help translate business needs into practical, well-designed solutions.

Acting as a key link between the business and technology teams, you’ll help capture requirements, challenge existing processes, support solution design and contribute to changes that improve efficiency, reduce risk and support LPPA’s strategic objectives.

Local Pensions Partnership Administration (LPPA) is one of the UK’s leading pension administration companies. We strive to deliver the best experience for over 1,500 employers and more than 738,000 members of Local Government, Police and Firefighter pension schemes, keeping them fully informed about their pensions whilst working closely with employers to continuously educate and support them.

What you’ll be doing:

In this role, you’ll help shape and support change across LPPA by:

  • Working with stakeholders to understand business needs, gather requirements and translate them into clear, practical specifications.
  • Reviewing existing processes, systems and ways of working to identify opportunities for improvement, efficiency and risk reduction.
  • Creating high-quality documentation, including requirements, process maps, specifications, reports and supporting artefacts.
  • Acting as a bridge between business teams and technology colleagues to support solution design, development, testing and implementation.
  • Supporting system changes, upgrades and enhancements, helping to minimise disruption and ensure changes land well.
  • Providing clear updates on progress, risks, issues, dependencies and deliverables.
  • Supporting governance, change control and benefits tracking so improvements are well managed and measurable.
  • Using tools such as Microsoft Office, Visio and collaboration platforms to produce clear, professional outputs.

What we need from you:

We’re looking for someone who brings:

  • Proven experience in a business analyst role, ideally supporting change, transformation, technology or operational improvement activity.
  • Strong requirements gathering, process mapping and documentation skills.
  • The ability to analyse information, spot patterns, challenge constructively and turn complex needs into clear recommendations.
  • Confidence working with stakeholders at different levels, including facilitating discussions, workshops and approvals.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex information clearly.
  • Good organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Practical experience using Microsoft Visio, which is essential for this role.

Nice to have

It would be great if you also have experience in any of the following areas, but we’d still love to hear from you if your background is a little different:

  • Pension administration or financial services.
  • Large-scale data migration projects.
  • Public sector or highly regulated environments.
