Area of Interest: Business Analysis and Consulting

Business Area: Group Infrastructure

Short Description: Use insight and analysis to solve problems and support better business outcomes

About the business area

Group Infrastructure helps keep HSBC running smoothly behind the scenes, connecting the teams, systems and services that support the bank every day. It’s where big-picture thinking meets real business impact, helping create the foundations that let millions of customers and colleagues stay connected. Treasury helps HSBC stay financially strong and ready for what’s next. It manages things like interest rate risk, capital and liquidity so the bank can meet its commitments and support customers with confidence.

Who you are

You’re naturally curious and like getting beyond the surface of a problem to understand what’s really going on. You enjoy working with numbers, spotting trends and using insight to support better decisions. You don’t need to arrive with deep finance knowledge — what matters is your willingness to learn, your analytical mindset and how you work with others. You could be a great fit if you ask thoughtful questions, communicate clearly and enjoy turning complex information into something useful and understandable. You value strong relationships, because you know trust and collaboration matter. You also reflect on your work and look for ways to improve. If you’re interested in treasury, data and how financial decisions shape a global organisation, this role could be a great place to start.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What you'll do

You’ll work with Treasury teams on analysis that helps HSBC manage liquidity, capital and risk. You could review financial data, use Python to analyse large datasets and visualise trends, and support reporting or decision-making with clearer insight. You may also explore areas such as interest rate risk, liquidity and capital management, and help identify smarter ways to improve reporting through digital tools, AI and automation. Working with colleagues across Treasury and Finance, you’ll see how analysis supports decisions that matter across the bank. It’s practical, data-led work with exposure to core treasury activity. The internship also includes structured assessments aligned to securing a graduate role, giving you chances to demonstrate how you think, collaborate and deliver, through tasks such as project work, presentations, interviews or skills-based evaluations.

What you'll learn

Across this 10-week programme, you’ll build your confidence through hands-on experience, expert training and self-led learning. You’ll deepen your understanding of treasury fundamentals such as liquidity, capital, interest rate risk and how financial resources are managed in a large global bank. You’ll also strengthen your analytical thinking by working with data, exploring trends and seeing how insight supports strategic decisions. The programme is designed to help you connect technical concepts to real business priorities, while building the professional confidence to contribute in a specialist environment. By the end, you’ll have a clearer understanding of Treasury, stronger problem-solving skills and a better sense of how your strengths could grow in this area.
