Business Consultant – Retail/FMCG

Location: London, Hybrid (1–2 days in office)

Salary: £40–65k depending on level and experience, plus bonus schemes

About the Role

As a Consultant, you will work with senior stakeholders at major Retail and FMCG clients to define strategies, design operating models, and identify how AI can unlock new sources of value to deliver measurable change.

Whether you're from industry or consulting, this role suits someone who enjoys tackling big operational challenges, shaping ideas with data, and turning strategy into action.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create innovative and actionable solutions to retail challenges across Planning, Pricing, Analytics, and Digital Transformation
  • Produce high-quality deliverables that help clients achieve and maintain long-lasting growth
  • Lead the development and running of business requirements workshops, and evaluate as-is and to-be states
  • Analyse and document business capabilities to develop solutions relating to operations, processes, people, and technology
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and insights based on client interviews, workshops, and meetings
  • Present findings, insights, and recommendations to executives and project leadership
  • Lead end-to-end system implementations and digital transformation projects, designing solutions and working closely with data and technology teams on implementation
  • Build honest, customer-centric relationships with client executive leadership, project sponsors, and business teams/users
  • Conduct industry, competitor, and company analysis (strategic, financial, operational) for market benchmarking
  • Contribute to our internal product roadmap through innovative ideas, industry analytics, and logical solutions
  • Support pre-sales work and proposal development for prospective clients
  • Support company culture — working closely with the People & Culture team to foster an inclusive environment

Skills & Experience

  • 5–8 years of experience in retail merchandising, business transformation, analytics, or consulting
  • Ability to synthesise information and approach problems methodically and logically
  • Strong analytical skills and comfort working with large data sets
  • Strong organisational, prioritisation, and time management skills, with close attention to detail
  • High levels of personal motivation, presence, and energy, with a proven ability to communicate across seniority levels
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills, with the ability to clearly and confidently present complex ideas and solutions
  • Strong awareness of the challenges of merchandising, pricing, product design, product development, supply management, and/or business change in a global and/or multi-channel business
  • Understanding of primary systems and high-level systems architecture used in retail
  • Demonstrated respect for others, with the ability to motivate, energise, and positively influence internal and external teams across diverse, multicultural environments
  • High confidence in MS Excel and PowerPoint
  • A successful retail or consulting career with experience in merchandise planning, buying, supply chain, or IT
  • Strong knowledge of key retail and supply chain verticals
  • Comfortable with technological principles and basic analytical frameworks
  • Experience working on a major software implementation
