Data Business Analyst
Location: Edinburgh (Hybrid)
Day Rate: Competitive (inside IR35)
Contract Type: Contract (with potential for permanent opportunities)
Overview
We are seeking an experienced Data Business Analyst to join a high-performing team within Asset Management. This role is ideally suited to a Business Analyst with strong data analysis capabilities who enjoys working with large and complex datasets, translating business requirements into actionable solutions, and ensuring data-driven outcomes align with business objectives.
The successful candidate will play a key role in analysing data held within enterprise databases, supporting reporting enhancements, validating requirements, and ensuring solutions meet stakeholder needs. This is not a traditional process-focused BA role; we are looking for someone with a strong analytical and data-centric background who can bridge the gap between data and business requirements.

Key Responsibilities
- Analyse and interpret large datasets from multiple database sources to identify business requirements and opportunities for improvement.
- Translate complex data findings into clear business requirements and functional specifications.
- Work closely with business stakeholders to understand reporting and calculation requirements.
- Validate and challenge requirements to ensure proposed solutions meet business objectives.
- Support changes and enhancements to reporting at product, entity, and group level.
- Collaborate within Agile delivery teams, participating in sprint planning, prioritisation, and delivery activities.
- Ensure requirements are accurately documented and traceable throughout the project lifecycle.
- Contribute to wider data initiatives and regulatory or audit-related workstreams as required.

Essential Skills & Experience
- Significant experience as a Business Analyst with a strong data focus.
- Advanced SQL skills with the ability to query, analyse, and validate complex data sets.
- Proven experience gathering, documenting, and managing business requirements.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Experience working in Agile environments, including two-week sprint cycles.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Advanced Excel skills.
- Ability to work independently whilst engaging effectively with technical and business teams.
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Experience within Asset Management or wider Financial Services environments.
- Knowledge of ESG or sustainability-related data and reporting.
- Experience using Power BI for reporting and visualisation.
- Exposure to regulatory, audit, or governance-related data initiatives.
