Business Development / Account Manager (Project Management & Consultancy)

Location: London or commutable distance (with travel to other offices/client sites)
Salary: £40,000 to £70,000 (depending on experience)
Bonus: Up to £16,000 performance-related bonus
Benefits: £5,500 car allowance or company car

The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen with a rapidly growing, leading international infrastructure and environmental consultancy. We are seeking a dynamic Sales / Account Manager to join our Energy, Transport & Infrastructure group.

In this role, you will focus on expanding our Project Management & Consultancy (PM&C) service lines. You will drive business growth across critical sectors, including National Grid, Energy Distributors, Network Rail, National Highways, Public Sector bodies, and Tier 1 Contractors.

Key Responsibilities

Market Analysis & Account Planning

  • Develop and execute strategic key account plans for prospective and existing clients.
  • Create a market coverage plan to maximize visibility at major industry events.
  • Promote company leaders and technical experts as industry thought leaders.

Relationship & Pipeline Management

  • Drive proactive new business lead generation through strategic networking, cold calling, and prospecting.
  • Conduct high-impact, face-to-face meetings with senior stakeholders to pitch capabilities and build deep commercial rapport.
  • Utilize your industry network to uncover fresh leads and project opportunities.
  • Foster relationships with potential delivery partners and procurement teams.
  • Gather early market intelligence to shape bid strategies before RFPs drop.
  • Secure company placement on approved supplier/bid lists for strategic accounts.
  • Maintain robust CRM data, visit reports, and monthly sales pipeline documentation.

Bids, Proposals & Strategy

  • Close high-value sales orders and secure firm client commitments.
  • Formulate winning strategies for complex project opportunities.
  • Collaborate with the bid team to write high-impact, persuasive proposals.
  • Lead specific bidding processes whenever required.
  • Align closely with operations to match capability with client demands.

What We Are Looking For

Essential Criteria

  • Experience: Extensive proven track record of success in sales, tendering environments, and new business lead generation.
  • Deal Closing: Proven ability to run face-to-face meetings, negotiate complex terms, and successfully close business deals.
  • Sector Background: Strong professional background within the construction or consultancy sectors.
  • Industry Knowledge: Deep understanding of the Energy, Transport, or Infrastructure supply chain.
  • Skills: Strong business development, commercial negotiation, and contract management skills.
  • Communication: Exceptional presentation and rapport-building capabilities with senior stakeholders.
  • Independence: A proactive, self-motivated worker who thrives on own initiative.
  • Tools: Fully proficient in a digital environment (MS Office, Teams, CRM platforms).
