Business Development Assistant

The Role

The Business Development Assistant will provide administrative and business development support to the firm's Business Development team, based in the Birmingham office. Working closely with the Chief Marketing Officer, Head of Business Development, Senior Business Development Executives, and wider Marketing team, the role supports the delivery of business development initiatives, conferences, events, and client engagement activities, while also assisting with reception responsibilities and the day-to-day running of the Birmingham office.

The role operates on a hybrid working model, offering a mix of office-based and remote working.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative support to the Chief Marketing Officer, Head of Business Development, and Senior Business Development Executives.
  • Assist with the planning and coordination of conferences and business development activities, including venue bookings, catering, equipment, invitations, and RSVP management.
  • Coordinate conference planners, ensuring key sessions, networking opportunities, and partner meetings are captured and communicated.
  • Track business development opportunities and follow-up actions arising from conferences, events, and partner meetings.
  • Conduct research into target sectors, organizations, industry bodies, conferences, and speaking opportunities to support business development campaigns.
  • Work alongside the Marketing Assistant to support the successful delivery of marketing events, projects, and initiatives, particularly within the Birmingham office and the wider Midlands region.
  • Support the delivery of business development activity within firm-wide and service or sector marketing campaigns.
  • Maintain business development content on the firm's intranet and assist with internal communications relating to business development successes and initiatives.
  • Coordinate internal business development meetings, preparing agendas, supporting documentation, and meeting notes.
  • Process business development invoices and assist with budget tracking.
  • Support the management of inbound business development enquiries received via the firm's website and shared inboxes.
  • Welcome clients and visitors to the Birmingham office and provide reception support as required.
  • Manage office correspondence, meeting room bookings, appointments, and catering arrangements.
  • Maintain office supplies and support the smooth day-to-day operation of the Birmingham office.

  • Prior experience within a Business Development and Marketing environment is desirable, ideally working within a professional services firm.
  • A minimum of five 9-4 grades at GCSE or equivalent, including grade 6 in Maths and English.
  • A high attention to detail to produce work / documentation which is consistently of a high standard.
  • An advanced knowledge of Word applications such as auto–numbering, bookmarks, and track changes.
  • Ability to co-ordinate large documents using Word.
  • Familiar with MS PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and Internet applications.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to prioritise workload to increase efficiency for the team.
  • Shows initiative and is self-motivated.
  • Able to convey clear and concise information to clients and external organisations, which will not compromise the practice or the firm.
