Exactmer is an innovative life sciences company developing membrane technologies for the pharmaceutical industry. We work closely with customers and partners to deliver high impact projects and translate cutting edge innovation into real world value.

As Exactmer continues to grow, we are looking to expand our commercial activities and develop our approach to business development, customer engagement and strategic partnerships. This newly created role will work closely with the leadership team to identify new opportunities, develop customer relationships and support the growth of Exactmer’s commercial activities.

This is a broad commercial role for someone who is interested in bringing scientific innovation into real world applications. You will work closely with customers, partners and internal technical teams, contributing to business development activities while helping establish the processes and relationships that will support the company’s future growth.

Summary of the Role

The Business Development Associate will support the development of Exactmer’s commercial function, working across business development, customer account management and commercial operations.

The role combines identifying new opportunities, developing customer relationships, supporting commercial proposals and ensuring successful delivery of customer projects. You will work closely with scientific and technical teams to understand customer needs, support commercial discussions and help translate technical capabilities into valuable partnerships.

Key responsibilities

Business Development and Growth

  • Identify new customer leads and opportunities and expand existing customer relationships.
  • Support new business development activities, customer engagement initiatives and strategic partnerships.
  • Contribute to market research and opportunity identification.
  • Assist with investment and fundraising activities.
  • Support grant proposal scoping and preparation.

Customer Account Management

  • Prepare commercial quotations, pricing proposals and commercial offers.
  • Review commercial agreements, statements of work, proposals and customer contracts.
  • Support invoicing activities in line with contractual requirements and agreed schedules.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for assigned customer accounts, building strong, trusted relationships.
  • Support technical teams in the successful delivery of customer projects.
  • Facilitate regular customer meetings, project reviews and progress reporting.

Reporting, Analysis & Business Support

  • Develop presentations and slide decks for customers, investors, stakeholders and senior leadership when required.
  • Assist in continuous improvement initiatives across business operations and project delivery processes.
  • Support the implementation and maintenance of business systems, processes and reporting tools, including CRM systems.
  • Provide flexible support to the team and undertake ad hoc duties as required.

About You

We are looking for someone who is commercially minded, organised and comfortable working across multiple priorities. You will enjoy building relationships, understanding customer needs and working with scientific and technical teams to develop commercial opportunities.

This role would suit someone who has developed experience in a commercial environment and is interested in playing a broader role within a growing biotech company. We are particularly interested in candidates who can combine scientific understanding with commercial curiosity and relationship building.

You may already have experience in business development, partnerships, account management or another customer-facing commercial role within life sciences, biotechnology or a related technical environment.

Essential Requirements

  • Advanced degree in Engineering, Chemistry or a science related field (PhD preferred).
  • Previous experience in business development, account management or a similar commercial role, ideally within a scientific, technical or innovation-led environment.
  • Strong communication and relationship management skills.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Experience preparing professional documents such as commercial proposals, reports and presentations.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience working in a technical, scientific, engineering or innovation-led environment, ideally in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology sector.
  • Familiarity with commercial contracts, pricing and customer agreements.
  • Familiarity with IP portfolio management.
  • Experience supporting grant-funded projects or collaborative research activities.
  • Experience working with CRM systems.
