Who is Origin IQ?

We are a specialist acquisition search firm working with private equity firms, family offices, and acquisitive corporates to identify and originate high-quality, off-market acquisition opportunities.

Our approach is highly targeted. We identify businesses that fit our clients' acquisition criteria and engage directly with their owners to introduce potential acquisition interest and create conversations that can ultimately lead to a transaction.

The Role

We are looking for a Business Development Associate to join our growing team.

The primary focus of the role is straightforward: speaking directly with business owners and securing meetings for our Senior Directors.

You will make outbound calls to owners of businesses that have been specifically identified as potential acquisition targets. You will explain that we are acting for a client that has asked us to approach them regarding their potential interest in acquiring their business.

This is not a traditional new business sales role. You will not be expected to win new clients for us. We describe the position as Business Development because the skills required are very similar: confidence on the phone, resilience, strong communication skills, and the ability to engage senior decision-makers.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

Once you have generated interest, your objective is to arrange a meeting between the business owner and one of our Senior Directors, who will take the acquisition discussion forward.

Given the potentially sensitive nature of these conversations, you will need to communicate professionally and credibly while making business owners feel comfortable discussing an approach.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct structured outbound calls to owners of businesses identified as potential acquisition targets
  • Introduce our client's acquisition interest clearly, professionally, and credibly
  • Engage business owners in initial conversations around a potential acquisition
  • Handle potentially confidential and sensitive conversations with discretion
  • Overcome initial objections and generate sufficient interest for a follow-up discussion
  • Secure meetings between business owners and our Senior Directors
  • Maintain accurate records of calls, conversations, and outcomes
  • Consistently work through targeted outreach campaigns on behalf of our clients

What We're Looking For

This is a high-volume outbound calling role, so you will need to enjoy speaking to people and be comfortable picking up the phone throughout the day.

We are particularly interested in people who have experience in business development, telesales, outbound sales, appointment setting, or other phone-based roles.

You should be:

  • Confident and articulate on the phone
  • Comfortable speaking directly with business owners and senior decision-makers
  • Resilient and unfazed by rejection
  • Persuasive without being overly sales-driven
  • Professional and credible when discussing potentially sensitive matters
  • Highly organized and consistent in your approach
  • Motivated by clear targets and financial incentives

How Success Is Measured

The key measure of success is your ability to convert outbound conversations into qualified meetings with business owners.

In addition to your base salary, you will receive a performance bonus for every qualifying meeting you successfully arrange, giving you a clear opportunity to increase your earnings based on your performance.
