Who are we?

Howden is a collective – a group of talented and passionate people all around the world. Together, we have pushed the boundaries of insurance. We are united by a shared passion and no-limits mindset, and our strength lies in our ability to collaborate as a powerful international team comprised of over 20,000 employees spanning over 100 countries.

Our people are our biggest asset as well as our largest shareholder group and are everything that makes us unique; our inclusive culture, the quality service we offer our clients, and our continued growth, all come from our people-first approach. There’s no such thing as individual success. We all need to play our part, contributing our skills and experience to make a true difference. That’s Howden.

Why work at Howden?

We have always been employee-owned and driven by entrepreneurial spirit. Right from the beginning, we've focused on employing talented individuals and empowering them to make a real difference to the company, whilst building successful and fulfilling careers at the same time. Simply put, we hire talented specialists and give them what they need to make a difference for clients. Always have, always will.

People join Howden for many different reasons, but they stay for the same one: our culture. It’s what sets us apart, and the reason our employees have been turning down disappointed head-hunters for years. Whatever your priorities – work/life balance, career progression, sustainability, volunteering – you’ll find like-minded people driving change at Howden.

The role

We're seeking a dynamic and motivated Business Development Executive to join our exceptional Financial Institutions team. As one of the leading insurance brokers in the market, Howden offers an outstanding opportunity for ambitious, driven professionals who want to make their mark. In this role, you will focus on developing new business across the financial services sectors, with a focus on a wide range of client types. You will generate revenue across core Financial Lines products—including D&O, Professional Indemnity, and Crime—while also identifying opportunities to cross-sell solutions from across the wider Howden group.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What you'll do

  • Focus on developing new business and growth opportunities across the target industries within the financial services industry.
  • Responsible for generating revenue across core Financial Lines products—primarily D&O, Professional Indemnity, and Crime—while also identifying opportunities to cross-sell wider group solutions.
  • Work as part of a 75 person Financial Institutions division, working as part of a Business Development team of approximately 5.
  • Compensation structure includes base salary plus commission, aligned to revenue generated for the team.
  • Success measures include meeting revenue targets, effective CRM usage, strong presentation skills, networking ability, and being a proactive, energetic relationship builder.

Who we're looking for

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills. Our team thrives on effective communication and the ability to work together towards common goals.
  • Sales and negotiation skills that will help you compete in a fast-paced market.
  • Strong motivation to continue progressing and developing a successful career within the insurance industry.

  • A commitment to continuous learning and development, with the ambition to grow within the company.

What do we offer in return?

  • A career that you define.
  • Our business succeeds by allowing our people to make a mark in the areas they care about most: personal development, volunteering, and fundraising for charity, or creating new insurance products that address society’s greatest challenges.
  • And we know that separate home and work lives don't really exist. If you're happy and healthy at home, you're more likely to be happy and fulfilled at work – and vice versa. That's why we do our best to support our people in every aspect of their lives.
