Poeton Industries group, founded in 1898, specialises in functional coatings that protect components from wear and corrosion. The company operates advanced, Nadcap and AS9100 Rev D approved facilities in the UK and holds major aerospace OEM approvals from organisations such as Airbus, Boeing, Rolls Royce, and SAFRAN. Its processes include a broad range of treatments, from anodising and plasma spraying to hard chrome and non-destructive testing. The company’s globally recognised Apticote range features advanced metal and polymer composite coatings offering superior corrosion resistance and low friction performance.
Role Description
The Business Development Associate is a full-time, on-site role based in Cardiff, responsible for supporting the growth of Poeton across key markets. This role is a 3-year training program with the end goal of being a self-sufficient Business Development Manager.
Year 1: Estimating Training
- Working with the estimating team in the Sales Office
- Understanding customer requirements, translating these into price estimates
- Generating a quote that the sales team can then pass onto the customer
- Mentored and work closely with the estimating, sales, and operations teams

Year 2: Promotion to Internal Sales
- Office based in the Sales Office
- Working in the sales team and managing your own customers
- Building and delivering presentations, business development, and account management skills
- Mentored to ensure support needed to flourish
Year 3: Promotion to External Sales
- Based in the Sales Office but with travel to customer sites
- A more senior position with more responsibility
- Face-to-face meetings and presentations for larger customers with strategic opportunities
- Skills to help identify key target customers and develop account plans
After Year 3, there are multiple roles and opportunities to progress within the sales team, which can be discussed as part of your career development plan.
Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities
- Review of SOW’s associated to customer enquiries, management of cost collation and price generation.
- In Year 1, as a support to the sales team, carry out designated quote processing for customer enquiries, managing the enquiry log, and storing all quote calculations:
- Responsible for the entire quoting process when delegated.
- Responsible for managing cost information collation.
- Responsible for floor price calculations using the costing sheet.
- Responsible for the management and storage of all quote packs.
- Responsible for producing the KPIs in accordance with policy deployment.
- Management of Quotations:
- Ensure all quote packs are recorded and filed.
- Analysis of information collated by the sales team as part of the quoting process (e.g., reasons for wins, losses, declines to bid, etc.).
- Year 2 and 3 accountabilities and responsibilities will be developed as part of the career development program.

Requirements
- Able to read and interpret engineering drawings
- Experienced in estimating within an engineering field
- Experience in Surface Treatments (desirable but not necessary)
- Highly numerate
- A customer-focused ‘can do’ attitude.
- Advanced Microsoft skills
- Self-driven and aspiration to develop into Business Development Manager
- Good customer relationship skills
- Good commercial acumen
