Company Description

TTP is an employee-owned technology and product development consultancy, with a 40-year track record of helping ambitious clients solve complex technical challenges to bring innovative, commercially successful solutions to market.

We invent, design, and manufacture impactful products and technologies across a wide range of industries – including healthcare, life science, energy, and communications – and at the intersection of biology, physical science and engineering.

Our working culture encourages entrepreneurship, shared ideas and technical collaboration, while providing you with the freedom to do your best work. With our bigger-picture thinking and consultative approach, our multidisciplinary expertise enhances patient outcomes, improves lives, and delivers measurable value for our client’s creative ideas.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Business Development Consultant to join our Advanced Surgical market team. You will help grow our business by building strong client relationships, uncovering new opportunities and applying your technical insight to understand complex client challenges and identify where TTP can add value.

We are particularly interested to hear from people with a strong technical background who are looking to develop in a more commercially focused direction. You may already have experience solving complex scientific or engineering problems in industry and be increasingly interested in the companies, people, markets and commercial decisions that shape which problems get solved. Alternatively, you may have developed your technical expertise through postgraduate research and discovered a particular aptitude for building relationships, securing funding, developing proposals or communicating complex ideas persuasively.

You do not need to have worked in a formal business development role before. We are looking for curiosity, initiative and a genuine desire to develop the commercial skills required to create new business, with the opportunity over time to take increasing commercial ownership and leadership.

The role will give you significant opportunities to engage externally, developing relationships with existing and prospective clients and representing TTP in the market. You will use your scientific or engineering knowledge to understand client challenges, help clients explore what might be possible and connect them with the right capabilities from across TTP, working closely with our scientists, engineers and experienced commercial leaders.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Alongside this, you will have opportunities to contribute directly to client projects and continue developing your own technical and project leadership expertise. This will allow you to keep solving interesting technical problems and stay at the forefront of your field, while maintaining the first-hand experience and credibility to engage confidently with technically sophisticated clients.

With a focus on Advanced Surgical device development, you will build on TTP’s successful legacy of delivering cutting-edge product development services, working closely with colleagues to shape opportunities and create compelling proposals for our clients.

Examples of the transformative work we do at TTP include the development of laser systems that can save people's sight and non-invasive surgical treatments to remove tumours.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain a valuable network of trusted relationships with existing and prospective clients, with a strong emphasis on getting out into the market, meeting people in person and creating new conversations and opportunities.
  • Develop opportunities with both new and existing clients: listening carefully to understand their technical, clinical and commercial priorities, identifying where TTP can add value and building a strong prospective sales pipeline.
  • Work with colleagues from across TTP to bring the right expertise to client challenges, shaping compelling propositions, proposals and scopes of work that balance technical ambition, client needs and commercial value.
  • Build TTP's visibility and reputation within the Advanced Surgical market through client engagement, industry events, professional networks and an effective external presence.
  • Lead increasingly significant commercial discussions, including developing opportunities through to agreement and negotiating contracts with appropriate consideration of technical delivery, commercial rationale and return on investment.
  • Identify and research emerging opportunities; energize team members to explore and expand into new areas.

Qualifications

What We’re Looking For:

  • Strong academic background with at least a 2:1 degree (or equivalent) in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline.
  • Technical capability developed through demonstrable experience in an area relevant to our Advanced Surgical market team (mechanical or electronics engineering, physics or product development for example. Experience in medical device development is particularly welcome).
  • Creative, sharp and versatile in your thinking. Able to grasp unfamiliar technical and commercial contexts, extract relevant detail and actively listen to come up with creative solutions for client problems in a sales scenario.
  • Clear desire to develop trusted client relationships, showing insight into the technical aspects of our offering as well as an entrepreneurial approach to addressing unmet client needs.
  • Collaborative, curious and joined-up approach to connecting with key stakeholders within the business as well as to build external relationships with both existing and prospective clients.
  • Previous formal sales or business development experience is not essential. More important is evidence that you enjoy working with people, can communicate technical ideas effectively and are motivated to develop a commercially focused career.
