Business Development Director

Location: UK
Salary: £110,000 - £135,000, plus package

We are working on behalf of a leading logistics organisation to recruit a Business Development Director who will be responsible for delivering sustainable business growth, leading strategic sales initiatives, and developing key customer relationships across the UK.

This is a high-profile leadership role with responsibility for driving new business acquisition, developing key customer relationships, and shaping the commercial strategy of a growing supply chain and logistics solutions business. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in identifying market opportunities, securing major contracts, and delivering sustainable revenue growth across a diverse customer base.

The role requires a strategic thinker with a strong track record of winning high-value business, influencing senior stakeholders, and developing innovative solutions that create long-term customer value.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide clear strategic direction and leadership, delivering ambitious growth objectives.
  • Develop and execute commercial growth strategies aligned with wider business goals.
  • Identify, qualify and secure major new business opportunities across target markets.
  • Drive significant revenue growth through proactive business development, strategic account engagement and solution-led selling.
  • Build and maintain a strong understanding of market dynamics, customer priorities and emerging industry trends.
  • Represent the organisation at industry associations, exhibitions, conferences and networking events.
  • Lead complex bids, tenders and commercial negotiations, ensuring solutions are competitive, innovative and operationally deliverable.
  • Collaborate closely with Operations, Solutions, Engineering, IT, Finance and Procurement teams to develop differentiated customer propositions.
  • Champion innovation through automation, digitalisation, sustainability initiatives and operational excellence.
  • Build strong relationships across international stakeholders to support multinational customer opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate sales pipeline management, forecasting and reporting processes.
  • Monitor business development performance, evaluating successes and lessons learned to continually refine strategy.
  • Work with marketing teams to develop targeted campaigns, events, digital engagement and brand visibility initiatives.
  • Drive opportunities from initial prospecting through to contract award, consistently achieving or exceeding agreed targets.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration and high performance.
  • Contribute to the wider commercial leadership agenda, sharing market insight and supporting strategic business initiatives.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

The ideal candidate will be a proven commercial leader with significant experience in business development, strategic sales and customer engagement.

  • Demonstrable success in selling complex business solutions.
  • Strong track record of securing high-value strategic contracts.
  • Experience developing and executing successful growth strategies.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain senior-level customer relationships.
  • Extensive experience engaging and influencing executive stakeholders through consultative selling.
  • Experience operating effectively within a matrix organisation and collaborating across multiple functions.
  • Strong commercial acumen, financial awareness and analytical capability.
  • Excellent presentation, communication and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to translate market insight into sustainable business growth.
