Business Development Director – Education

Location: UK
Reports to: Senior Business Development Director

The Business Development Director will lead company growth in the UK education sector. This role focuses on delivering soft services—such as cleaning and security—to educational settings including universities, colleges, and further education institutes. This role involves developing and executing comprehensive business development strategies that are closely aligned with the organization’s overall objectives.

Key Responsibilities of a Business Development Director:

  • Identifying new growth opportunities
  • Setting clear and measurable targets
  • Ensuring the successful delivery of soft services in accordance with the unique demands of each sector
  • Building and nurturing senior-level relationships with key stakeholders, such as heads of procurement and estates and facilities managers
  • Fostering long-term partnerships that drive mutual growth and value creation
  • Taking ownership of the identification, pursuit, and acquisition of high-value contracts with a range of clients
  • Leading the entire sales process—from initial engagement through to contract negotiation and the finalization of agreements
  • Demonstrating strong leadership in coordinating both internal and external stakeholders
  • Ensuring effective collaboration and alignment towards achieving the organization’s business development objectives within the healthcare and controlled environments sector

Key Accountabilities of a Business Development Director:

  • Develop and implement business development strategies aligned with company objectives for education
  • Build and manage a robust pipeline, securing high-value contracts with universities, colleges, and further education institutes
  • Lead tendering processes, ensuring tailored solutions for the sectors, with attention to student experience
  • Structure and negotiate commercial deals, balancing profitability and risk, with attention to the unique requirements of the education sector
  • Represent the company at industry events and regulatory forums relevant to education
  • Build trusted relationships with universities, colleges, and further education institutes
  • Serve as a strategic advisor, understanding the priorities and constraints of the education sector
  • Drive innovation and added value in bids and operations for education
  • Collaborate across functions for seamless contract delivery and tailored solutions

Location

This is a hybrid role which offers the freedom and flexibility of working remotely combined with regular office attendance to facilitate team connection and collaboration. Given the global remit of the role, regular travel to our locations throughout Great Britain and the Island of Ireland is required.
