Business Development Director

We are looking for a Business Development Director with a strong food operations background to lead commercial growth, drive sales strategy, and identify new business opportunities. This role will be responsible for strengthening market presence, leading high-performing teams, building strategic client relationships, and delivering sustainable revenue growth across the organisation.

Main Responsibilities

  • Own and deliver the organisation’s sales strategy, annual sales plan, and revenue growth objectives.
  • Lead, motivate, and develop high-performing sales teams, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and commercial success.
  • Build, manage, and convert a robust new business pipeline, driving opportunities from lead generation through to contract award.
  • Lead bids, tenders, and proposals, ensuring all sales opportunities are commercially sound, competitive, and professionally presented.
  • Utilise sales performance data, market intelligence, and customer insights to enhance targeting, pricing strategies, propositions, and overall business performance.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Marketing, Operations, and Finance, to identify and deliver sustainable growth opportunities.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Proven senior-level business development and sales leadership experience, with a strong track record of delivering sustainable revenue growth.
  • Strong commercial acumen, including pricing strategy, contract negotiations, and the ability to identify and develop profitable business opportunities.
  • Demonstrated expertise in pipeline management, sales forecasting, performance reporting, and driving business development activity.
  • Experience leading complex bids, tenders, proposals, and strategic client pursuits from opportunity identification through to contract award.
  • Results-driven, resilient, and highly motivated, with the energy and determination to achieve ambitious growth targets.
  • Credible, authentic, and collaborative leadership style, with the ability to build trusted relationships, influence stakeholders, and inspire high-performing teams.
