Business Development Director – Staffing & Workforce Solutions
Role Overview
We are looking for a lively, enthusiastic and commercially driven Business Development Director to lead new business activity, strengthen relationships with existing clients and drive revenue growth across the EMEA market. This is a senior commercial staffing leadership role for someone who can support new business, grow existing accounts, help mature the sales capability across EMEA and identify opportunities to sell broader workforce solutions.
The role will have a strong staffing and recruitment focus, but the ideal candidate will also be able to identify and develop opportunities across broader workforce solutions, including Direct Sourcing, MSP, EOR and wider Talent Solutions services. This role is suited to a confident sales professional who can combine hands-on new business development with strategic account growth and internal sales support.
The role will be broadly split 50/50: approximately 50% focused on generating and converting new business opportunities, and approximately 50% focused on supporting internal sales teams while developing existing client relationships from a sales and revenue-growth perspective. Working closely with the EMEA Vice President for Delivery/Fulfilment, the successful candidate will be responsible for opening doors, creating momentum with current and prospective clients, supporting the sales team to drive more placements and helping shape commercially credible solutions that respond to client needs.
The successful candidate will act as a senior representative of the business in client conversations, sales meetings and RFP discussions. They will be expected to bring strong commercial judgement, market awareness and the ability to work collaboratively with internal teams to design practical, client-focused solutions that support profitable growth.
Purpose of the Role
The purpose of this role is to accelerate revenue growth by winning new clients, expanding existing accounts and identifying opportunities to introduce broader workforce and Talent Solutions services. The Business Development Director will play a key role in building a stronger commercial presence across EMEA, helping the business deepen client relationships, increase placement activity, support senior sales conversations and contribute to the development of strategic solutions for clients with complex hiring or workforce requirements.
Role Split
- 50% New Business: identifying, approaching and converting prospective clients, creating a strong pipeline and securing new revenue opportunities.
- 50% Sales Team Support and Existing Client Growth: supporting internal sales teams to progress opportunities, helping drive more placements, strengthening current client relationships and identifying additional sales opportunities within existing accounts.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive new business activity by identifying, approaching and converting prospective clients within agreed target markets.
- Strengthen relationships with existing clients, creating regular dialogue, identifying live opportunities and increasing revenue through additional placements and services.
- Support the sales team by helping to manage opportunities, unblock client conversations and create momentum across priority accounts.
- Develop and maintain a healthy pipeline of new business opportunities through networking, referrals, market mapping, business development calls, client meetings and sector insight.
- Act as a senior client contact, understanding business needs and presenting tailored workforce solutions that support hiring, contingent labour or wider talent objectives.
- Promote staffing and recruitment services with credibility, energy and a clear focus on margin, revenue and profitable client growth.
- Identify opportunities to introduce Direct Sourcing, MSP, EOR and broader Talent Solutions services where these are relevant to client needs.
- Prepare and deliver compelling sales presentations, proposals and service offerings for prospective and existing clients.
- Attend and actively contribute to sales calls, client meetings, RFP calls and solution-design discussions.
- Support and, where required, take ownership of RFP responses, proposals and tender submissions, ensuring they are commercially strong, accurate and aligned to client requirements.
- Work closely with recruitment, delivery, operations and leadership teams to ensure client requirements are clearly understood and effectively delivered.
- Monitor sales activity, pipeline progress and revenue performance, providing regular updates, forecasts and insight to senior management.
- Represent the business professionally in the market, promoting its brand, values and expertise across staffing and workforce solutions.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
