Business Development Director
At Convergence Group, we’ve spent 20+ years powering some of the UK’s most complex networks - and we’re growing fast. We’re looking for a Business Development Director to win new customers and unlock further growth across our 1,500+ existing customer base.
The focus is on driving growth from both new customer acquisition and existing accounts. That means building a strong prospect pipeline, uncovering untapped opportunities and selling our WAN, LAN, Wi-Fi and Security solutions. From there, commercial ownership stays with you - developing relationships, growing the accounts you win and continually identifying new opportunities. Many of our existing customers use only part of our portfolio, leaving plenty of room to grow. You’ll spot service gaps, open doors with new decision-makers and uncover opportunities across multiple sites and teams. Success in this role calls for Account Director-level judgement and relationship management, combined with the drive and prospecting discipline to win new customers and new business within existing accounts.
What you’ll do as our Business Development Director
- Unlock customer potential - Analyse existing customer accounts, identify white space opportunities and develop account growth plans that maximise the value of our relationships
- Build strategic relationships - Engage with key stakeholders and senior decision-makers, developing a deep understanding of their business challenges, priorities and future technology requirements
- Drive cross-sell and upsell opportunities - Introduce customers to our wider portfolio of WAN, LAN, Wi-Fi and Security solutions, helping them realise additional value from their partnership with Convergence Group
- Develop account growth strategies - Create and execute structured plans for your customer portfolio, identifying opportunities to increase customer penetration, revenue and profitability
- Sell solutions, not products - Take a consultative approach, working with customers to understand their challenges and develop solutions that deliver measurable business outcomes
- Build a high-quality pipeline - Proactively generate qualified opportunities within existing accounts, maintaining a healthy and predictable pipeline of customer growth opportunities
- Identify new business opportunities - Where appropriate, leverage your network, customer relationships and market knowledge to identify and develop complementary new business opportunities
- Deliver commercial results - Achieve revenue, gross-margin and account-growth targets while maintaining strong customer relationships and delivering long-term value
- Own your pipeline - Maintain accurate CRM records, manage opportunities effectively and deliver reliable sales forecasts
- Collaborate to succeed - Work closely with Account Management, Customer Success, Marketing, Solution Architecture, Product and Commercial teams to identify opportunities and deliver the right customer outcomes

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What it’s really like here
The pace and intensity are higher than most environments in our sector. The workload is typically around 30% greater than many people will have experienced elsewhere - not because we are chaotic, but because we are ambitious and constantly building. We grow organically and through acquisition, continuously integrating, improving and raising the bar. The landscape evolves, priorities shift, and expectations rise. If you prefer a predictable, static environment, this probably won’t feel comfortable. If you are energised by growth, movement and high standards, it can be deeply rewarding.

We hire people who are already strong at their craft - the stretch at Convergence Group is navigating pace, complexity and constant evolution. This environment isn’t for everyone, but for the right person it offers an exceptional opportunity for impact, growth and accelerated development.
