BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR (PRIVATE SECTOR)
Contract: Commercial
Location: Canary Wharf, London (E14 9SH)
Hours of work: 40 hours per week - hybrid
Contract Type: Permanent
We are seeking a Business Development Director to lead client engagement and develop new business opportunities across the Private Sector.
The successful candidate will play a key role in driving growth by identifying opportunities for integrated facilities services and building relationships with senior decision-makers.
Job Description
We are looking for a commercially focused individual to create a strong pipeline of prospective clients, work closely with operational and commercial teams, and develop winning strategies that demonstrate how ISS can support customer needs and business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver a targeted business development strategy to secure new key account clients across sectors including Banking & Financial Services, Professional Services, Manufacturing, Technology, Life Sciences, and Corporate Real Estate.
- Build and maintain executive-level relationships with key decision-makers, including CEOs, CFOs, COOs, Procurement Directors, Workplace Leaders, and Property Executives.
- Create and manage a strong pipeline of qualified opportunities aligned to growth objectives.
- Act as a trusted advisor, demonstrating insight and a strong understanding of workplace and facilities management challenges.
- Identify market opportunities, customer challenges, and industry trends to position solutions effectively.
- Lead strategic customer engagement from initial contact through to opportunity qualification and bid mobilisation.
- Represent the business at industry events, networking forums, and customer engagement activities to strengthen market presence.
- Develop account-based growth strategies for target prospects, mapping stakeholders and influencing buying decisions.

About You
- Self-motivated, highly proactive, and resilient, with a strong drive to achieve ambitious growth objectives.
- Deep knowledge of the UK facilities management and outsourcing marketplace - including customer buying behaviours, procurement approaches, and market trends.
- Strong understanding of commercial and operational models for large, complex outsourced service contracts within facilities management, workplace services, property, hospitality, or broader business services sectors.
- Proven experience engaging and influencing senior stakeholders and C-suite decision-makers within large private sector organisations.
- Experience working within matrix organisations and coordinating multi-disciplinary teams.
- Exceptional relationship-building and networking skills.
- Strong commercial acumen with excellent opportunity qualification and pipeline management capability.
- Credible presenter and communicator, able to engage confidently at board level.
- Strategic thinker with the ability to identify market trends and translate insight into action.
- Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to influence at all levels.
- Collaborative approach, able to work across multiple teams while maintaining focus on delivering results.
- Good understanding of the end-to-end sales cycle for large FM opportunities and how client insights contribute to competitive proposals.

- Full UK driving licence required.
- Regular travel is an essential part of the role.
