Insurance Business Development Executive (BDE) – SME Commercial Segment
(3 Roles | Hybrid | Witham, Egham & Worcester)
We are recruiting three Insurance Business Development Executives (BDEs) to drive growth in Marsh’s SME commercial segment across Witham, Egham, and Worcester. This hybrid role requires you to work at least four days per week – split between client engagements, operational hubs, and office-based responsibilities.
The focus is on direct-to-client acquisition, delivering fast, repeatable commercial risk placements (premium band: £5,000–£20,000). The role prioritises Commercial Combined, Contractors, and general commercial products, necessitating strong prospecting, quoting, and pipeline management.
Key Responsibilities
- New Business Generation: Proactively source, qualify, and convert high-quality direct client opportunities within the £5k–£20k premium segment.
- Velocity & Conversion: Drive accelerated sales cycles through structured qualification, rapid quoting, and disciplined follow-ups to enhance conversion rates.
- Handover & Early Retention: Ensure seamless transitions to servicing/account teams and support early retention efforts (first 12 months).
- Market Insight: Provide insurer appetite intelligence to product development teams to refine propositions for the SME market.
- Relationship Building: Develop direct client relationships and nurture introducer/referral channels to generate direct business.
- Quality & Governance: Maintain accurate records and full compliance with Marsh’s internal policies, including proposition quality assurance and underwriting guidelines.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
