Business Development Executive
Global Events | Permanent | £35,000–£45,000 + Commission
Working pattern: Monday to Thursday office-based | Friday morning from home | Friday afternoon off
Are you a commercially driven sales professional who loves winning new business and wants the opportunity to sell high-value solutions in a growing international market?
An established global events business is expanding one of its successful events and is looking for a Business Development Executive to play a key role in its growth. You will be responsible for developing new relationships and securing sponsorship partners for their events.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone with B2B sales experience who is hungry to step into a new sales sector. You do not need previous events or sponsorship experience. What matters is your ability to prospect, engage decision-makers, build relationships and take a sale from initial conversation through to close.
Sponsorship packages range from approximately £7,000 to £100,000, with the core deal size typically around £20,000–£30,000. You'll also benefit from a strong starting market, with existing US sponsors who have European operations providing warm opportunities alongside new business prospecting.
Key Responsibilities
- Generate new business and secure sponsorship partnerships for the European event
- Manage the full sales cycle, from initial prospecting and outreach through to negotiation and close
- Build strong, credible relationships with prospective sponsors and commercial partners
- Proactively identify and approach new organisations through telephone, email and other business development activity
- Develop opportunities from an approximately 50/50 mix of warm and cold leads
- Follow up leads and opportunities generated by the company's established marketing team
- Build and maintain a healthy, well-managed sales pipeline
- Identify further opportunities within existing US sponsor relationships and their European operations
- Deliver a consistently high level of sales activity
- Work towards ambitious commercial targets and drive sponsorship revenue
- Take ownership of relationships and develop long-term commercial opportunities

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Skills & Experience Required

- Proven experience generating your own new business opportunities
- Confidence prospecting and engaging potential clients over the telephone
- The ability to both open and close new business
- Strong communication, questioning and relationship-building skills

Previous events or sponsorship sales experience is not essential. The business is particularly interested in people with strong transferable sales skills who are motivated to move into a new commercial sector.
