Business Development Executive
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Business Development Executive based in the United Kingdom.
This is a business development role focused on identifying and developing acquisition opportunities within the software and payments sectors across Central and Eastern Europe and the Balkans.
- You’ll build relationships with founders, business owners, shareholders, and senior executives at software companies that fit defined investment criteria.
- The role combines market research, outbound prospecting, relationship development, pipeline management, and strategic business development.
- You’ll take ownership of a regional deal pipeline spanning markets including Romania, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, Bulgaria, and Greece.
- Your work will directly contribute to an ambitious acquisition strategy and the continued growth of a global software portfolio.
- You’ll operate with significant autonomy while working closely with senior leadership to identify new opportunities, refine market strategies, and develop promising prospects.

Accountabilities
- Conduct market, industry, and competitive research to identify software businesses in the payments and related verticals that align with defined acquisition criteria and investment metrics.
- Develop and maintain a pipeline of qualified acquisition prospects across Central and Eastern Europe and the Balkans, with particular focus on Romania, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, Bulgaria, and Greece.
- Identify and engage business owners, founders, shareholders, and senior executives to introduce acquisition opportunities and establish trusted long-term relationships.
- Manage outbound business development activities, including cold outreach, prospecting, introductory calls, follow-ups, and presentations of the organization's value proposition.
- Nurture early-stage leads and prospects through the business development process, ensuring promising relationships are consistently developed and progressed.
- Expand the deal pipeline through industry conferences, regional trade shows, networking events, broker road shows, and other relevant business development channels.
- Maintain accurate prospect, relationship, activity, and pipeline information within Salesforce or the relevant CRM system.
- Track deal funnel performance and provide clear reporting on pipeline development, prospect activity, and emerging opportunities.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to develop new prospecting strategies and initiatives that support accelerated growth across the target markets.
- Identify trends, market developments, and potential acquisition opportunities that could strengthen the regional investment strategy.
- Represent the organization professionally when engaging with prospective acquisition targets, industry contacts, intermediaries, and other external stakeholders.
- Handle commercially sensitive information and senior-level relationships with discretion, professionalism, and integrity.

Requirements:
- 2+ years of professional experience in sales, business development, lead generation, or a related commercial role, ideally with exposure to Central and Eastern European or Balkan markets.
- Demonstrated success with cold calling, outbound prospecting, relationship development, and structured sales or business development processes.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the confidence to engage founders, business owners, shareholders, and senior executives.
- Experience developing and nurturing long-term business relationships rather than focusing solely on transactional sales.
- Highly self-motivated and organized, with the ability to plan your own activity, manage priorities, and consistently work toward measurable performance goals.
- Strong time-management and multitasking abilities, particularly when managing multiple prospects, markets, and ongoing conversations simultaneously.
- Positive, entrepreneurial attitude with a strong drive for results and the resilience required for proactive outbound business development.
- High level of integrity, trustworthiness, and professionalism, particularly when handling confidential business information and sensitive acquisition discussions.
- Strong understanding of B2B software businesses is an advantage.
- Knowledge of accounting principles and familiarity with software business metrics is a plus.
- Experience using Salesforce or another CRM platform is desirable.
- A degree in business administration, business, finance, or a related discipline is an asset, though equivalent professional experience is also relevant.
- Previous B2B software industry experience is advantageous.
- Fluent English plus at least one key regional language such as Romanian, Hungarian, Czech, Serbian, Croatian, Bulgarian, or Greek is required.
- Additional European language skills are a plus.
- Comfortable working independently in a geographically diverse, international business environment.
