About the Role

Our client is an innovative, industry-leading manufacturer serving the construction, industrial, and rail sectors. They are seeking a Business Development Executive to look after their Rail sector to join their growing team and align with their 5-year growth strategy.

You will be responsible for driving growth and revenue to £5 million by 2030 within the UK rail industry through a combination of direct sales, project pursuit, product focus, and management of specialist reseller accounts that operate specifically within the rail sector.

The role focuses on building strong relationships with rail contractors, infrastructure providers, project and procurement functions, and sector-specific resellers. You will own the full sales cycle—from lead generation right through to securing orders.

Duties

  • Direct Sales
    • Identify, develop, and convert direct sales opportunities across rail main contractors, subcontractors, infrastructure providers, and train operating companies.
    • Build relationships with all stakeholders across contractors and routes.
    • Lead the full sales cycle including scoping needs, specifying products, preparing quotations, and closing sales.
    • Track major projects, frameworks, and tenders to position them early in the buying process.
    • Provide technical guidance and top product knowledge and recommendations aligned to rail safety, storage, and compliance requirements.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
