WorkSmarter

We’re looking for a confident and driven Business Development Executive to join WorkSmarter and help us grow our new-business pipeline.

WorkSmarter provides HR software and HR support to businesses across the UK. We’re growing, and we want someone who can take ownership of outbound prospecting and create genuine conversations with businesses that could benefit from what we offer.

This isn’t a role about sending hundreds of generic emails or simply hitting a call number.

We’re looking for someone who can identify the right businesses, find the right decision-makers, understand what is happening within that company and start a meaningful conversation.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll be responsible for generating qualified new-business opportunities for our sales team.

A typical week will involve:

  • Researching and building targeted prospect lists
  • Identifying business owners, Managing Directors, HR Managers and Operations leaders
  • Making proactive outbound calls
  • Sending personalised emails and LinkedIn messages
  • Following up warm and engaged prospects
  • Re-engaging businesses we have previously spoken to
  • Running focused prospecting campaigns into specific industries and customer groups
  • Understanding how a prospect currently manages HR and what problems they are trying to solve
  • Booking well-qualified demonstrations
  • Keeping CRM records, notes and next actions up to date
  • Making sure good opportunities are followed up properly

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

We’ll give you clear campaigns and target markets to work from rather than expecting you to randomly call businesses.

These may include growing SMEs, companies still managing HR through spreadsheets, multi-site employers, businesses looking for better holiday and absence management, organisations needing time tracking, or businesses reviewing their HR processes.

What we’re looking for

You’ll probably be a good fit if you:

  • Have experience in outbound sales or business development
  • Are comfortable picking up the phone and starting conversations
  • Can speak confidently with senior decision-makers
  • Are organised and disciplined with follow-up
  • Enjoy researching prospects rather than working from poor-quality call lists
  • Can ask good questions and understand a prospect’s real problem
  • Are comfortable using CRM systems, LinkedIn and prospecting tools
  • Are persistent without being overly aggressive
  • Care about the quality of the opportunities you create, not just the number of calls you make
  • Enjoy working towards clear commercial targets

Experience selling HR software or SaaS would be useful, but it isn’t essential if you have strong B2B sales experience and are willing to learn.

What the role can become

This is an important role within our growth plans.

We want the person joining us to become the engine behind our outbound new-business activity, helping us understand which markets, campaigns and messages work best and creating a predictable flow of opportunities for WorkSmarter.

If you’re commercially minded, enjoy outbound sales and like the idea of taking ownership of a growing sales channel, we’d like to hear from you.

To apply, please send us your CV along with a short note explaining why you think you’d be a good fit for WorkSmarter.
