Business Development Manager

Location: Droitwich - Hybrid
Employment Type: Permanent, full-time
Salary: Competitive salary plus benefits

About the Role

Focused on the Protective Coatings service line, the Business Development Manager is responsible for exploring and understanding customer’s needs within the service offering, pro-actively generating and identifying new business opportunities from either self-sourced or qualified company leads, and from existing portfolio customers and new customers within the full UK region.

The Business Development Manager will be required to develop, implement and deliver an agile annual strategic sales plan which is focused on high growth potential sectors and customers and that supports the needs of the business growth aspirations and contracted work goals, using relevant data, tools and testimonials.

Key Responsibilities

  • To scope protective coating opportunities, producing accurate quotations in a timely manner.
  • Liaise regularly with operational teams to ensure operational capability along with capacity availability remain in line with clients’ expectations.
  • Research and standardise costing template tools within the coating space.
  • Build and manage a growth pipeline that is visible and clearly reported, using this to support the company forecasting process (MLO).
  • Proactively engage in market awareness campaigns supported by the group marketing function.
  • Closely manage the aged debt of defined customers within the Protective Coatings sector.
  • Manage the process of significant bids and tenders personally and through the use of group commercial resources.
  • Perform as the commercial lead for Adler & Allan Protective Coatings for the benefit of securing new business relationships at senior levels within the defined market sectors.
  • To achieve or exceed set revenue, margin and contract win targets and KPIs on a monthly basis.
  • Plan and implement new business strategy to identify specific customer targets and to project the number of contacts to be made. The post holder must also prepare a projected forecast for their sales activity, both in customer visits made as well as projected revenue.
  • Manage, develop and progress with self-sourced or company generated leads and referrals resulting from field activity.
  • Manage account services through CRM data, ensuring all activity is recorded accurately.
  • Communicate new product and service opportunities, special developments, information, or market feedback/development gathered through field activity to appropriate company staff.
  • Take full ownership for investigating and resolving customer and client concerns and grievances; implement strategy to avoid reoccurrence of such issues in the future and provide solution on an ad-hoc basis.
  • Produce detailed cost breakdowns related to the application of various products within multiple working environments.

Qualifications

  • Fully conversant with Microsoft Office applications is essential.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, organisational agility and well-developed influencing skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written, with internal and external clients at all levels.
  • Previous experience of operating in a Protective Coating environment is essential.
  • Experience in managing sales and/or account management personnel.
  • Energetic team player with the ability to influence / obtain buy in across functional boundaries.
  • Strong planning and presentation skills.
  • Ability to create, compose, and edit written sales proposals and materials.
  • Due to the nature of the role, a flexible approach to working hours, travel and working days is required.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Willingness to undertake additional training as required to meet the needs of the business.
  • Must be a great team member, capable of supporting colleagues in challenging times.
