Business Development Manager
Location: St Albans, Hertfordshire | Hybrid
Salary: £35,000 to £45,000 basic + commission
OTE: Up to £70,000
Area: South of England

We are looking for an ambitious and commercially driven Business Development Manager to join a well-established and growing Fire & Security business based in St Albans.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with proven experience within the fire and security industry who enjoys winning new business, developing long-term client relationships, and seeing opportunities through from initial conversation to signed contract.
With more than 25 years in the industry, the business has built a strong reputation for delivering high-quality life safety and security solutions. As part of its continued growth, it is now looking for an experienced Business Development Manager to help develop new revenue streams and expand its customer base across the South.
With a basic salary of up to £45,000 and OTE of up to £70,000, this is a genuine opportunity to be rewarded for the business you generate.
The Role
Reporting directly to the Group Sales Director, you will take ownership of developing new business opportunities across the South.
You will be responsible for identifying and approaching prospective customers, building strong relationships, and converting opportunities into profitable, long-term accounts across Fire & Security installation, service, and maintenance.
This is a varied role combining new business development, relationship building, networking, site surveys, proposals, negotiation, and account development.
You will:
- Identify and develop new business opportunities across your territory
- Build relationships with prospective customers across both the private and public sectors
- Generate new revenue across Fire & Security installation, service, and maintenance contracts
- Manage the complete sales process from initial lead generation through to contract mobilization
- Develop a strong and sustainable sales pipeline
- Research target markets, customer requirements, and competitor activity
- Attend networking opportunities and represent the business professionally within the market
- Carry out site surveys and work with customers to understand their Fire & Security requirements
- Produce professional quotations and tailored commercial proposals
- Negotiate and close contracts while achieving agreed revenue and margin targets
- Identify opportunities to upsell and cross-sell additional services
- Maintain accurate pipeline information and sales activity using Simpro
- Track performance against KPIs and provide regular updates to senior management

What We Are Looking For
You will be a confident, motivated, and commercially-minded sales professional who enjoys creating opportunities rather than waiting for them to arrive.
Previous experience within the Fire & Security industry is essential, alongside a proven track record of selling installation projects and ongoing service and maintenance contracts.
You will ideally have:
- Proven Fire & Security industry experience
- A successful track record within Business Development or B2B Sales
- Experience selling installation, service, and maintenance contracts
- Strong new business development skills
- Experience managing the full sales cycle
- Excellent negotiation and closing skills
- Strong account management and relationship-building ability
- A commercial approach with a focus on profitable, sustainable growth
- Confidence dealing with decision-makers and senior stakeholders
- Excellent organization and communication skills
- The ability to manage your own territory and pipeline effectively
Most importantly, you will be a proactive self-starter who takes ownership, enjoys developing relationships, and is motivated by winning new business.
