South Based Role

Our client is a leading organisation within the automation and technology sector, and we are supporting them in the search for an experienced Automation Business Development Manager. This is an opportunity to join an established business and take responsibility for developing automation sales across the Southern UK, with a focus on the growing Smart Building and Data Centre markets. The role combines technical expertise, consultative sales and business development, working closely with customers, partners and internal technical teams to identify opportunities and deliver automation solutions across industry, infrastructure and building applications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Developing new and existing customer relationships across the territory.
  • Identifying and converting new business opportunities.
  • Providing technical pre sales support to customers and business development teams.
  • Meeting and exceeding agreed sales targets and KPIs.
  • Supporting tenders, technical documentation and project bids.
  • Conducting customer visits, presentations, seminars and exhibitions.
  • Providing technical training and coaching to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Maintaining a strong understanding of the automation market, competitors and available solutions.
  • Supporting the development of Smart Building and Data Centre strategies and go-to-market initiatives.
  • Working collaboratively with sales, applications, engineering, product management and customer support teams.

About You

We are looking for an experienced Automation Sales Engineer with around five years' experience in a similar role, ideally gained within manufacturing, building or industrial automation.

You should have a strong technical understanding of automation systems and ideally experience with a number of the following:

  • BACnet, KNX, DALI, EtherCAT, PROFIBUS, PROFINET and Modbus.
  • IoT technologies and modern protocols including MQTT, Node-RED, Bash, GraphQL and UNS.
  • PLC programming, ideally CODESYS / IEC 61131-3.
  • Building Management Systems and building automation.
  • Technical training and customer support.

An engineering degree or equivalent qualification, minimum Level 5 engineering qualification or equivalent, and a full driving licence are required.
